Fermoy Estate

Reserve Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

See quite a few previous Delectable notes. Interesting back story about Fermoy Estate being served at the wedding of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark to Sydney girl, Mary Donaldson. This is my last bottle. A deep dark crimson. A lovely nose of blackcurrant, eucalyptus and herbs. Palate of medium intensity showing those aromatics. A pretty good Margaret River Cabernet from the Wilyabrup district. Probably doesn’t get the credit it deserves being overshadowed by its more famous neighbours in Moss Wood, Woodlands, Vasse Felix and Cullen. — 20 days ago

Lenton Brae

Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

See previous note from February 2023. A full bodied Margaret River Cabernet - cassis and herbs. This is really good. From the dress circle Wilyabrup area of northern Margaret river with neighbours like Moss Wood, Woodlands, Vasse Felix and Cullen etc. Barb said woody notes (not meaning oak influence). All the best Margaret River Cabernet attributes with the texture and mouthfeel of an excellent Barossa Shiraz. We both loved this wine. Have the last one in mid 2025. — 6 months ago

Woodlands

Chloe Chardonnay 2012

See previous Delectable notes. Crystal clear pale lemon in colour. A lovely 10 year old Margaret River Chardonnay. Chloe is Woodlands premium Cru for Chardonnay. A funky nougat type note - lemons and nuts. Not as full as Leeuwin Art Series - more like near neighbours Cullen and Vasse Felix. This wine begs for seafood. Next night quite Citric. — 2 years ago

Vasse Felix

Tom Cullity Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2017

I had this lovely wine last Sunday night at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast. This is the best Cabernet blend from Vasse Felix and is different from the other premium Cabernet blends in Margaret River because it has 17% old vine Malbec (originally planted by Dr. Tom Cullity himself in 1967 and are the original vines planted in Margaret River). Of course it was infanticide drinking this superb wine at only 7 years of age………but sometimes you have to do these things!! I swear I could detect the presence of the Malbec on the nose as it was so different from the other big name neighbours like Moss Wood, Woodlands and Cullen. A beautiful floral nose of roses and violets. I have been collecting the Tom Cullity since the first vintage in 2013 through to 2019 but for some reason never bought the 2017. This is the first Cullity we’ve had. Just waiting for my cellared examples to get some age. HH gave this wine 98 points and a drinking window of 2021 to 2041. — a month ago

Eight year Kevin John - lovely with pear on the nose and pear with perfectly balanced acid on the palate. Sets a high benchmark for all premium Chardonnay.

Juniper Estate

Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

See previous notes from November 2020. Herbaceous is the word together with plum and blackberry - some earthiness with a note of mushroom. In summary - Herbal, Mineral, Bay leaf. Not the complete package like it’s more illustrious Wilyabrup neighbours like Woodlands, Moss Wood, Vasse Felix, Cullen etc but also half the price so good QPR. Tasted again 60 weeks later on 6th September 2022 with similar results A good wine that drinks to its price point. Not quite the standard of its illustrious neighbours. Not as much maritime influence? — 3 years ago
