Folly of the Beast

Central Coast Chardonnay 2019

This is an outstanding Chardonnay! Beautifully balanced, with a complexity of fruit flavors laced into a spicy, full bodied wine with the right amount of oak.m so that it’s not overpowering. Love it! From Winc. Tasted 9 May 2022 — 2 months ago

Virginie de Valandraud

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Dec 14, 2020. W/ Caitlin. Wine Folly tasting challenge, Bordeaux. C got this at Last Bottle. Definitely needs more time but should be beautiful in a couple years. Cedar, cherry, black fruit. Complex and well balanced. — 2 years ago

Castello di Monsanto

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2015

Very balanced, tastes expensive compared to what we usually drink. Cherries on the nose, strawberry, prunes, cinnamon, spices, pepper. Part of wine folly set. Liked better than the GSM. Good zippy acidity. Would buy again. — 2 years ago

My favorite wine. Good with rich, heavy meals

Folly of the Beast

Central Coast Pinot Noir 2019

Raspberry, fig and baking spices on the nose. Tastes like tart cherry and white pepper with an oak finish — 5 months ago

C.A.I. Kabinett Trocken Riesling

Really nice! Apricot, lemon, slate, beeswax. It’s much harder for me to pick out notes from whites so I consulted Wine Folly. This is fairly dry, with just a twinge of juice. Great with chicken dinner or just to have while writing a paper for grad school 😉. — 7 months ago

Grecante Colli Martani Grechetto 2017

Delicious! According to Wine Folly, if you close your eyes, it tastes like rose. Soooo true! Definitely buying this again! — 2 years ago

Edmeades' Folly Mendocino County Red Blend 2013

What Randy said... seems to have improved more with age. — 2 years ago

Folly La Finca de Apalta Syrah

Bodegas Ondarre

Rivallana Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2016

Apparently the window for drinking Tempranillo is 5 to 10 yrs (Wine Folly). WE vintage chart indicated the 2016 Rioja to be a 95 " can drink not at peak. WS rated this at a 92; I would not go that far! I always wonder about ratings? Is it an estimate for when the wine is near maturity? Please note the above information I utilize as a soft guide; deeply appreciate advice given through this forum!
This wine needed some coaxing, two days on the cork plus 90 min. decant. Old World in style, tobacco, violets, rich Bing Cherries, licorice Snaps and cedar. Patience is everything I took a sip of this two days ago and thought about dumping it!

No prob! Some of the better riojas from old school bodegas like Lopez de heredia, rioja alta, cvne, Marques de murrieta are worth seeking out and will age wonderfully for decades. Also, I agree with you about scores… there doesn’t seem to be any consensus about whether they are evaluating at the moment or potential quality (even on my part).. Though for what it’s worth I do find Jancis Robinson’s reviews to be the most descriptive of the drinking experience itself. And Parker and Vinous seem to be more focused on the wine’s potential.
