American geography ignoramus that I am, little did I know that the Northernmost tip of the Rhone- Cote Rotie- is the kissing cousin of Beaujolais. St. Amour is more midpoint, but has that great granite terroir which makes this long standing Cru Bojo (& under 20$) a perennial fave. It’s that mineral tautness I love. — 2 days ago
An old friend, whom I am ecstatic to find again. Basically a Burgundy estate that was exiled from Chablis & is part of Côte d’Auxerre. Concentrated green fruits, lithe, delicate & powerful all at once. The balance is remarkable-I can’t imagine a better QPR. Polaner importer. — 13 days ago
Been 2 years+ since I’ve had this. Nose is gorgeous now. Nose is honeyed almonds and steel wool. Nuttiness as well. Sense of richness but also super umami notes. Chenin is a major umami grape. Confectionary honeycomb on the nose. So gorgeous and such clarity. Really a knockout nose. Palate is clear, vivid and has terrific, knock you on your ass acids. Tangy and also really leaves an imprint on the palate. Fantastic purity and presence. Really really long. Brown sugar on the nose now. A sick sick wine. Maybe best chenin I’ve had from Michel Chèvre. — 3 days ago
Deep nose of ripe plum, cassis, blackberry, cedar, dark roasted coffee beans, herbal spices, hint of cigar box and violet. Warm and soft lightly extracted dark fruits lead the initial attack. Dense yet smooth with impeccable balance. Full of energy. Firm polished tannins. The pairing of 14 days dry age Rohan duck was magnificent.
Immensely powerful with old world charm and grace, this 10’ Saint Julian earns a perfect score from WE, and I think it’s deservedly so. — 5 days ago
Medium Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, floral and spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and raspberry with black pepper, fresh cut herbs and flinty notes. Medium+ finish, rustic dusty tannins, ending with fruit, floral, spice and mineral character. — 2 days ago
Dark yet fresh, vivid and bursting out of the glass with ripe sour cherry, violets and crushed rocks. A touch of reduction.
On the palate this is so fresh. Mid weight, juicy, crunchy tannins, juicy acidity. Chunky yet not rustic.
This has personality, loads of interesting edges, quite some depth and brilliant drinkability, esp. slightly chilled.
Brilliant value, too! — 6 hours ago
