Chianti Gran Selezione

Castello di Gabbiano

Gran Selezione Bellezza Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2016

Terrific now but could easily go several more years. Dense, precise fruit and earth in the nose. A little vanilla. Savory and focused in the mouth. Tannins and acids balanced for the future. — 6 days ago

Azienda Agricola Fontodi

Vigna del Sorbo Gran Selezione Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2018

Winery is located in the heart of Chianti Classico in the valley which lies south of the town of Panzano and is called the "Conca d’Oro" (the golden shell) because of its amphitheatre shape. Deep Ruby with aromas of dried fruits and oak notes, 18 months of French oak aging. On the palate flavors of sweet cherry with tobacco and floral tones. Fine sweet tannins, vivid acidity, well balanced, long finish ending with earthy mineral character, 15% alcohol, nice mouthfeel. Pricy but one of the best I’ve tasted, consistent. — 5 months ago

Marchesi Antinori

Badia A Passignano Gran Selezione Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2012

Big cherry, ripe and full, Tuscan leather. Bad vintage, great wine. Antinori knows what they’re doing. The age helps. — 11 days ago

Castello di Brolio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sangiovese Blend 2016

Oak, sweet spicy aroma. Deep raisin and red black fruits. Coffee, chocolate nuance. Tanning, spicy. Drinkable from first shot. Found it good Chianti immediately! 2016 @2100, xiaduo -, 220430-220518 — 3 months ago

Can Ràfols dels Caus

Gran Caus Reserva Penedès Red Blend 2010

Similar to an aged Rioja or Chianti. Red fruit, black fruit, earth, leather, tobacco, and eucalyptus. Opened for about 30 minutes prior to drinking. Definitely needs more time to breathe. Very enjoyable — 3 years ago

Roncicone Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sangiovese 2015

Wonderful, and so much life left. Dark brambly berries, forest floor, cedar, long prune finish, lush tannins, bright acid keeps me sipping. A treat. — a month ago

I Veroni

Riserva Chianti Rùfina Sangiovese 2014

This is a very good Chianti, but I have to admit: stylistically, and for my purposes (matching wine with the food I and my wife cook), I generally like the regular, fresher Chiantis over the darker, more wooded Riservas and the new Gran Selecciones. But this is a very well made Riserva. Dark, slightly sour but ripe cherry fruit intermingled with balsamic. Some gravelly notes. Good intensity and balance in the mouth, but focusing on darker, leathery notes more than fruit. Some puckery tannin comes out at the end. — 2 years ago
