1970 | Cabernet Sauvignon
Beaulieu Vineyard; Georges de Latour Private Reserve
Napa Valley; California, USA
(95-97; Drink 2025-40+)
3h decant
Nose has ripe cherry, cedar++, charcoal, grilled black cherry, faint olive and over-ripe blackberry.
Palate has dried cherry/blackberry, tobacco, strawberry, vanilla, dried mint, leather with medium+ tannins and plenty of acidity to hold for decades.
Epic, even besting the 1968 & 1995 for my palate!

I personally saved this wine from my cellar. It’s the year I was married. It’s as fresh as when I purchased it. Deep purple color. Smooth as silk. No aftertaste. Wonderful earthy tastes. Some plums. Just wonderful. — a month ago
Came across a 2007 Chassagne-Montrachet at my local shop. He tells me: “I sell low price because nobody has interest in it”. Knowing what these vintages go for and how well they can drink, I instantly jumped on the chance. I am proud to have found this hidden gem because this year was sensationally rich, surprisingly lower acidity than expected, and just a wonderful experience. As the wine sits on the palate, it just continues to grow and compliment itself. I instantly called the owner and had him hold the remaining 3 bottles for me. What a wine!! — a month ago

1979 vintage. Above average fill with a fully saturated cork. Used a Durand but corkscrew segment wouldn't insert to the hilt. Cork kept spinning. Got 3/4's the way in before deploying the ah-so segment. Able to remove the cork in two acts. Decanted with gigantic sed. Super lean but with staying power. LFDL consistently rates as one of the best (if not THE best) 2nd label in BDX. 1979 wasn't the best vintage but the pedigree is unimpeachable and this carries along a zippy, spice box component. Should have another 5-6 years at this level. 7.6.24. — 20 days ago
