Tart in front, then rounds out towards the middle and you can taste the subtle sweetness of the Cabernet towards the end. Very lightly tannic, medium bodied. Great legs, great color. A good grocery store pick after a hell of a day. — 6 years ago

@Keith Fisher and his wife were kind enough to open this after I asked what their thoughts were. I received the Save the Date email this week for their upcoming release and it seems as though they are striving to be the first cult bubbly out of Cali.

This '12 is still very tart at opening. In fact, it was mainly green Granny Smith Apple with a kick of kiwi and that was it. However, after an hour and a half, a creamy note came out of this and more almonds, toasted bread and more complexity. At the 2-hr mark, this was actually extremely delicious. Based on this, I'll definitely buy a few bottles but aim to let them age AND have some air time before enjoying. — 9 years ago

This Cabernet Sauvignon from the House of Charles Smith is always enjoyable. Well balanced and fruit forward with black fruits, earth and chocolates.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with Cheeses, olives and nuts.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (1 hour). Will get even better in a year or two.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

On the nose, floral and lightly spiced dark cherries, blackberries, blueberries, vanilla, liqueur notes and dark dry & fresh florals. The mouthfeel is richly beautiful. The palate has; dark cherries, cherries, dry strawberries, hints of blue fruits and then the spices quickly kick in with a heat lifting intensity. Notes of red fruit liqueur. Nice round acidity with a beautiful, elegant fruit and medium spiced finish. Substance is another label under the Charles Smith brand. In fact, I was told, Charles has further evolved the name to "Wines of Substance" going forward. — 9 years ago

In Vancouver, we consider Washington State as local wines.
Just because there is a border doesn’t mean anything.
Charles Smith is a great guy. Long hair, plays guitar and loves hockey….he’s practically Canadian.
This Syrah has red/black fruit aromas with plums and cherries dominating.
Complex flavours of black currants, liquorice, smoked herbs and great minerality on the finish.
The vineyards are from Northridge and Clifton Hills (both on the Wahluke Slope) — 5 years ago

On the nose, rustic style mixed red fruits & blueberries, loamy soils, tea, a core of dark currants, licorice and fresh dark florals. The palate reveals a little more oak use. M body with M-M+ tannins. Fruits are a blend of blue fruits, dry cranberry & rhubarb, dry crushed rocks, wood shavings, steeped tea, touch of saline, violets, roses and a long, lean, beautiful, elegant finish that holds.
