This Riesling hails from Alsace, France, 🇫🇷 more specifically, the Grand Cru vineyard of Osterberg on the softly sloping hillsides of Ribeauville.
The ‘Grand Cru’ designation attached to the vineyard site means, among other things, that the corresponding wine must be made exclusively from a noble variety in Alsace. 👑
Riesling is a noble variety along with Gewurztraminer, Muscat, and Pinot Gris. It is known for its powerful aromatics and wide range in sweetness levels. This is a dry representation with 13.5% ABV. While there are notable exceptions, generally speaking, the higher the alcohol (ABV %), the drier the wine will be, because it means more sugar from the grape has been converted to alcohol in the fermentation process instead of the sugar remaining in the resulting wine.
This wine stands up well to the flavors of the sushi and the high acidity cuts through the fatty fish oils and tempura. 🍱 🍣 The aromas include tart and crisp apple, pear, citrus, honeysuckle, and wet stone. A nice contrast and complement to the umami flavors of the meal.
I have come to learn that I love aromatic wines with sushi, such as Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. Then again I also love Champagne, Chenin Blanc, and Chablis with sushi. And, of course, sake.

Haven’t been able to get this since winter. So good for the price point, $40 ish. Good to be able to get this locally again.
Ripe, juicy pear, green & golden apples, pineapple, white stone fruits, touch of cider, sea fossils, limestone, grey volcanics, yeasty bread, baguette crust, caramel, yellow lilies, spring flowers, acidity is perfect with length, balance & smartly polished for days.
Great on both ends, cheese & shortbread cookies. — 20 hours ago
Nice Riesling, nice full texture, rich but not too much, acidity is backward, residual sugar feel is low, a bit of evolution though for such a young Riesling. 89-90
Beau Riesling un brin évolué pour son âge, une belle texture pleine et assez riche, acidité en retrait, pas de sensation de sucre résiduel trop élevée, belle longueur, très bien et content de ne pas avoir trop attendu cette bouteille. — 8 days ago
From the Domaine Leflaive Montrachet, Burgundy France 🇫🇷 is 100% Chardonnay and has a gorgeous golden hue. The nose hits you with oak, vanilla, butter, honey and some sweet tropical fruit of pineapple 🍍, green apple 🍏, honey 🍯, white flowers, lemon rind 🍋 and some mineral notes (like flint and limstone). The palate was very creamy with flavours of melon 🍈, lemon 🍋, lime, apple and hints of tropical fruit too. The finish was smooth and long giving it some delightful complexity. 🤩 — 8 days ago
2006 already showing quite a bit of development. Good development with a medium gold color and aromas and flavors of hazelnuts and hints of buttermilk and butterscotch. Very dry. The effervescence was perfect and helped to make the wine still refreshing — 9 days ago
2015 vintage. Nose really reticent currently. Great deep purple hue. Bunches of blackberry and planks of cedar with a tobacco garnish on a surprisingly grippy finish. Some pleasant dark chocolate notes interspersed with plum and the aforementioned (planks of) cedar in the front and mid-palate. Needs another few years to start singing sweetly. Would score it a 9.2 if I could coax something/anything out of the nose. *edit* Took about 45 mins for subtle smoke, plum, forest floor and graphite aromas to find their way to the forefront of the bouquet. Bumped the score up to 9.2. — 2 days ago
I bought this on release somewhere between $25-$27.
My first bottle. I have seen people post this w/ nice reviews. It over delivers the price point.
Still needs another 5 years and will live well for 10- 15 years more.
It is classic good vintage Bordeaux. Blueberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, tobacco, graphite, stone, limestone, moist clay, sage, bay leaf, darker, withering florals, smooth acidity and length, balance & polish for days.
Yeah, the zucchini & sugar snaps peas are cut from my garden the end of this week. If you haven’t had sugar snaps peas out of the garden, you are missing veggie candy. Both crazy good w/ the snap peas taking the tape.
92.5 is more accurate. Really doesn’t taste like a Bordeaux Superior at all. — 15 days ago
Deep yellow center with a nice clear rim. Notes of apple, cedar, white peach, smooth stone fruits. FRESH …Seamless with light acidity & perfect balance. Consumed over three hours. Beauty - Bordeaux blend from ARG tasting like Pauillac w/big beautiful delineated & detailed nose of cherry, currant, cassis, cigar box, pencil lead, sweet spice... just gorgeous. Finely grained tannins and seamless finish. Impressed w/evolution - has more life ahead. — 12 days ago
