Dark cherry, violets, and wood spice. Goos sour grip. Excellent balance. Good mid palate weight but not overblown like some Otago pinots — 13 days ago
Blend of 75% Cab Sauv, 9% Carmenere, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Cab Franc & 5% Syrah, aged 14 months in French oak, 65% new. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, spices and herbal earthy tones. On the palate flavors of blackberry, ripe cherry and currants, with herb notes and black pepper spice. Ripe chewy tannins showing it’s youth, long finish ending with earthy herb notes. Very nice, let this one develop in cellar for a few years. — 4 days ago
Optio Vineyards La Mar Vineyard Petite Sirah 2020, Paso Robles, California
Deep purple in color with a short purplish rim.
Full bodied with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel.
Showing black currants, cooked cherries, plums, dried figs, tobacco, oak, spices, light vanilla, peppercorn and bitter herbs.
Nice length on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a tasty Petite Sirah from Paso Robles. Showing nice complexity, rich and concentrated.
This Single Vineyard is a nice sipping wine, big and bold. Good right out of the bottle and good by itself. Fruit forward, extracted and jammy.
Still young and would be better in a few years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years, and see if it calms down a bit.
In your face kind of wine, so not for the faint of hearts, with a teeth staining color.
Petite Sirah grapes were aged in (50% new) oak barrels for 17 months. A tiny production of only 660 bottles.
14.5% alcohol by volume.

Complex nose, wonderful body with long finish. — 11 days ago
Aromatic notes of red fruits and red florals, dried herbs and whole bunch influences. Not as typically Otago as I was expecting - more restrained and less full bodied as you normally expect from this part of the world. I had written previously on Otago as being a “Shiraz drinkers Pinot” but this certainly wasn’t. The following day still those red cherry aromatics and a little pepper. Not overly complex, a little young, but very pleasant. Next in a year or so. — 14 days ago
No one wanted to open this bottle at a function, so I took it home. We don’t want to waste anything, let alone a bottle of wine.
Nose has nice complexity, with blackberry, red cherry, fig, black pepper, and subtle green note that’s the signature of Chilean cab.
Medium body, juicy and quite eloquent.
Very pleasantly surprised. — 5 days ago
The nose is really superb, between bright notes of fruit (citrus fruits, apricot stones), barrel notes. Lively mouth, beautiful minerality, gunstone, notes of onion, poultry. Balanced, well-built body. Superb finish also, bringing together the tasting bouquet. Nice pleasure!
Beau plaisir! — 8 days ago
Restrained but lovely...hints of citrus — 12 days ago

This is a fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Paso Robles. Easy drinking and spicy at this point.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Showing red and black fruits with vanilla, licorice, cedar, earth, peppercorn, leather, tobacco, chocolates and coffee.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
Showing great complexity with a smooth mouthfeel. So pleasant and enjoyable by itself, and really gorgeous after 3 hours of airtime.
This 23 year old is not going to get any better with time, but it is delicious now. I just love these aged Bordeaux blends.
Interesting, elegant and rich. Fruit forward and extracted.
I've had a younger vintage of the Reserve a few years ago, and it is very consistent. Nice to see these quality wines out of Paso Robles.
