Château Beauséjour

Pentimento Montagne-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Tried this again, 1st bottle was a dud! Made by Michele d'Aprix, an American woman who studied organic chemistry in college and ended up in Bordeaux. Chemical equation on the label is the equation for calcareous clay soil in the right bank of Bordeaux giving a unique character. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits and notes of cedar and spice. Palate shows flavors of blackberry & cherry with tobacco and pepper spice. Drying tannins, medium+ finish, nice balance ending with earthy herbs & black pepper notes. — a month ago

Trés Violet Red Rhone Blend 2018

As a Grenache groupie- I can confirm this is an amazing blend. Beautiful cherry, vanilla, oak, white floral, black licorice, and green herb. So complex, a wine that truly gets better as you drink it. Silky on the mouth. Having it on the mountain was great- brining it home was better — 3 months ago

Barbera d'Alba Barbera 2017

Treiso zone of Barbaresco. White marl, clay-calcareous alternated with sand. Southeast exposure. Aged in large oaks, stainless steel and concrete vats for 1.5 years after harvest. Such an elegant Barbera, extremely aromatic boutique of rose, herbs and spices. Beautiful acidity balanced by a plum jammy finish. Delicious! — a month ago

Còsmic Vinyaters

Còsmica Connexió Xarello Blend

Huge fan of this magnificent - and curiously inexpensive - wine made on the calcareous clay terroir of Penedes, Spain. 85% Xarel-lo (white grape of Spanish origin, specifically grown in Catalonia), 10% Chardonnay and 5% Muscat of Alexandria. An aromatic mouthful of fleshy peach, lilies, lemon zest (and a few other descriptors I’m still noodling on), with the perfect lick of salinity from the optimal altitude of 300-500m terrain. Two different people have recently said to me “You can’t have both” when I’ve asked for an aromatic wine with good minerality... l’d like to call bullshit on their bullshit and put this on the table, or an Albariño for that matter. Medium bodied, balanced, with a silky texture (yes, silky) and at just €13 a bottle you’re set for a delicious evening. Old world wine makers pursuing tradition and not convention. Never conform to the demand. UP UP UP!! — 3 months ago

Domaine Michel Magnien

Vieilles Vignes Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2016

This comes from two vineyards with vines planted in 1902 and 1920. The soils are calcareous marl and clay. The wine is a pure expression of its terroir thanks to its élevage in a combination of used oak and clay jars. The wine shows ripe and fresh red-fruit aromas on the nose with Asian spice and rose petals. Medium weight and moderate tannins follow on the palate with a concentration of flavor that is typical of old vines and wholecluster fermentation. They say Michael Magnien follows the rhythm of moons synodic revolution at each stage. — 12 days ago

"Protos Inos" Zitsa White Blend 2019

Zitsa region again. Very harmonic and fresh, clear and long calcareous, mineral ending; diving in Epirean mountain stream, feeling the stone.

I really enjoyed this wine. Aroma is a bit earthy- raspberry and black pepper. Crisp mouth feel with ripe cherry flavor. Finish doesn’t overstay it’s welcome, oak and black pepper. Overall a great Grenache! — 4 months ago
