Brunello Di Montalcino

La Cerbaiola di Salvioni Giulio

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2005

Not sure what @Antonio Galloni is talking about in his recent score as this was classic, and deeply so, with wonderfully mature aromatics and palate. He must have had a few bad bottles, I brought this back from Italy a few years ago. Balsamic, more tertiary than primary and more dark red cherry and currant fruits, heady aromatics, lots to like here. Tannin are a little grainy but that's just being a little bit picky. — 7 days ago

Podere San Lorenzo

Bramante Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2006

Dark ruby, semi-transparent, dusty cherries in turned Earth, bramble, pepper, flowery violets and exotic spices. Med bodied, impressive balance & bearing - this was regal, an aging Aristocrat that has seen the best days recently slipped by. Still w/reservoir of fruit juxtaposed w/secondary elements. A beaut — 5 days ago

Opens up with dark cherries, pomegranate, plums. Then hint of earth and smoke. Nice finish with light acidity and very easy to drink. — 12 days ago

Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi)

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Annata Biondi-Santi. This is absolutely delicious. Always special from this producer. Love the color. Classic Sangiovese. Orange rimmed next to the pale red. Balanced between some grippy but delicate tannins and approachable fruit. The nose has some spice and some earth but they don’t bring a kick so much as depth. The bottom line is you can tell it’s great because the wine drinks so fast! — 17 days ago

Terre Nere (Campigli Vallona)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Popped and poured; no formal notes. At this stage the 2011 BdM from Terre Nere is fully developed and luscious. Dark cherry fruit with some stewed qualities, kirsch liqueur, orange zest, herbs and espresso. The body is full and almost a bit chewy. Structure is firm but tannin is well integrated and comes across fairly round which is probably more of an indication of the vintage than anything else. Finish is long. This is a more rich and opulent version of this wine. Drink now and through 2030. — 9 days ago

Poggio Landi Winery

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Really nice but probably needs a few more years. Dark, low-toned fruit, earthy terracotta scents. Savory and fairly big in the mouth. Tannins soft but abundant. — 12 days ago

Castiglion del Bosco

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Probably opened this Brunello 2010 vintage late but after resting open for an hour in the bottle and into the glass for moments only, the wine softened to a velvety, exquisite smoothness on the palate with a perfect balance…just the right amount of tannins and acidity. Close to spectacular…elegantly drinkable, nothing quite comparable to the full-flavored yet medium bodied Brunello. Other reviewers have more impressionable palates but no single distinct flavor impressions for me other than the deep red berry. No nut nor earthiness yada yada (how does anyone taste a nut, tree bark or dirt in fine wine?). Etc. etc…simply a full flavor but not “big” for the sake of it. An exquisite wine…a rare accomplishment. Purchased in Cortona, Italy. — 9 days ago

Tenuta Caparzo

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

The name of the estate comes from "Ca' Pazzo", shown on ancient maps. Caparzo is owned by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, she also owns Altesino. Deep Ruby with berry fruit aromas with cedar, herbs and smoke, aged for 2 years on oak. On the palate cherry, plum & cranberry flavors, with leather, cacao, spice, herbs and tobacco notes. Lively acidity, fine approachable tannins, long ending with spicy mineral oak finish. — 8 days ago

Tenuta Il Poggione

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

This classic wine is aging gracefully. Medium ruby color with brick rim. Bold dark cherry aromas with notes of leather, violets, spices and graphite. Black cherry on the pallet with notes of mushroom and tobacco. Medium/plus body with a touch of mineral on the finish. Tannins are quite smooth. Mouth watering (high levels of) acidity. Really nice expression of the Sangiovese grape. — 6 days ago

Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

Popped and poured; no formal notes. A little shy upon opening but after 30min of air, this was bangin’! Montmorency cherry, orange peel, black tea, dry dusty earth, spices. Firm structure. Still quite youthful but undeniably delicious. A wonderful accompaniment to pasta, marinara and panzanella. Drinking very well now with a little air and should continue to do so for another 10+ years. — 18 days ago
