Balthazar Of The Barossa

Old Bush Vine Grenache 2015

#grenache from #barossa #barossavalley sort of a #village wine I really enjoyed it. It’s nice to see a large winery like Yalumba be versatile and grow wines like this one. Pale ruby color. Reminiscent in aspect and aromas to a Pinot, more savory and spicy on the palate with higher alcohol than a Pinot. Oak nice and subtle and well-integrated. #australian — 21 hours ago

Torbreck Vintners

The Steading Red Rhone Blend 2010

Mid Ruby in colour. Aromas of Raspberry (Grenache) and Tar (Mataro). The medium weight palate shows the raspberry sweetness with liquorice and tar coming through with spice from the Shiraz. A blend of 64% Grenache; 18% Mataro/Mourvèdre and 18% Shiraz. These are old bush vines that survived the vine pull scheme of the 1980s (which was viticultural vandalism at the time). The Steading is probably my favourite Torbreck Cuvée regardless of price. A permanent resident in the cellar. — 21 days ago

Red belly wash?

Little Wine # 5 Red Blend

Only brief notes. A combination of 4 pretty good vintages - 2012 (11%); 2013 (3%); 2014 (39%) and 2015 (47%). Only 4955 bottles filled. A menthol and sandlewood note with a faint H2S note which blew off. Trademark silky tannins and great length - the product of those old vines in the Hoffmann Dallwitz vineyard. — 7 days ago

Henry's Seven Barossa Red Blend 2017

Very nice wine @ our favorite cheese and charcuterie place! Medium red color. Bright, fresh nose. Very fruit forward wine. Cherries, strawberries, and plenty of spice. More Pinot than Shiraz. Was just what we were looking for this afternoon. Give it a try! — 13 days ago

Basket Press Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016

Only got a sip of this one - it disappeared rather quickly. It has become a cult wine in Australia and priced accordingly. Made from grapes sourced from old dry grown vineyards aged from 60 to 140 years old. It is always lush silky and moreish. Fruit and nut milk chocolate. Seamless. Hard not to like it. — a month ago

One of my all time faves. 15 years ago, this was modestly priced. Alas, times have changed...

@Ron R Yes Ron - just checking a few sites online. Prices range from $200 to $240 per bottle in AUD. It seems not all that long ago it was around $80 to $90. It’s all relative. I remember paying $12.50 for the 1982 Hill of Grace in the mid 1980’s.

Margaret Barossa Sémillon 2005

See previous notes - this wonderful old Semillon keeps getting better and better. Mid Lemon in colour. Aromas of Lanolin, beeswax, wet hay, lemongrass and toast. 0n the palate a soapy texture amongst the citrus and honey notes with refreshing bright acidity. Tastes much younger than 15 years and will probably still be giving pleasure on its 20th birthday but sadly for me this is my last bottle. Totally unoaked demonstrating how good Semillon puts on weight with age and doesn’t need oak unless you want to drink it young which misses the point as Murray Tyrell used to often say. A real treat to drink this wine - the following day the citrus was riper with notes of mandarin. Stunning. — 13 days ago

Thanks Cec. I can you see you are a lover of old Semillon purchasing some old examples from Halliday’s cellar. Good on you.

Gnarly Dudes Barossa Valley Shiraz

Gorgeous. Smells a little like liquorice, and "leather" as someone else reviewed it said, peppery. So smooth, almost creamy, yet punchy! Dark sharp fruits.
Enjoyed with pizza as a treat to celebrate being alive and the start of a week + 1 day off work 😬🤤🍷🍕

Barossa Shiraz 2016

One of the best Australian wines I’ve had. You can expect to find a medium-bodied profile, with cherry, dark chocolate/black liquorice, and peppered kale/ arugula flavours carried by complex tannins. A sipple of a tipple! — 21 days ago
