Soljans Estate

Barrique Reserve Pinot Noir 2015

This afternoon I have opened the 2015 Soljans Estate Barrique Reserve Marlborough Pinot Noir.

On the nose I am able to get ripe cherry, strawberry jam, cola, ckove, mushroom, some funk, wet leaves and forest floor.

On the palate there is ripe cherry, raspberry, cranberry, plum, clove, mushroom and an earthy component.

This wine is medium bodied with medium acidity and medium sandy tannins with a long earthy finish. I hope everyone's weekend went well and are doing well? We look forward to a wonderful week ahead and as always please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Soljans Estate

Sauvignon Blanc 2016

On this Sunday night I have opened the 2016 Soljans Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

On the nose the aromatics are very compelling explosive with notes of lime, papaya, guava, honeydew melon, orange, passionfruit and minerals.

On the palate there are citrus notes, lemon-lime, nectarine, asian pear, melon, white peach and minerals.

This wine is nicely complex that is medium bodied with a oily saline mouthfeel that has medium acidity that moves nicely into a long clean citrus mineral finish. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend staying safe and healthy? We look forward to the week doing the same. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂

Kumeu River

Rays Road Pinot Noir

I expected more from a #singlevineyard release from #kumeu and that has been touted by the likes of #jancisrobinson must be an #mw thing. Too expensive for what it delivered. Better off with the #estate wines of Kumeu. #newzealand #pinotnoir — a month ago

Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

Medium lemon in colour. An intriguing classy nose showing funky leesy notes, nectarine, cashew nut, flint and gunsmoke - many nuances. Palate staining citric intensity. One of the world’s great new world Chardonnays - no exaggeration. Has become an annual purchase for me. Postscript:: Similar notes to the 2010 vintage 193 weeks ago. This year I bought the “Hunting Hill” and “Coddington” Cuvées for the first time. Will be interesting to see the differences. — 5 days ago

@Jan A That’s good Jan. I never dreamt the distribution would be as wide as this.

I have not seen their Pinots here, but would love to taste those at some point. I’m guessing they are worth a try.

@Greg Gosselin I’ve only had their Hunting Hill Pinot 194 weeks ago in Wellington at the NZ Pinot Celebration and it was very good. Notes here on Delectable but I think the Chardonnay remains Star of the Show.

Like many SBs from New Zealand. You can't go wrong. And you have to love the year. 2020. Lol 😓 — 8 days ago

Cloudy Bay

Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc 2001

Rich golden colour, nutty flavours as a result of ageing. Hint of fading tropical fruit on the nose with coconut on the palate. Honestly thought this would be well past its best but has surprised and delighted 19 years on! — 4 days ago

The Investigator Kangaroo Island Cabernet Franc 2008

See previous notes for this cuvée and vintage 76 weeks ago An unlikely venture on Kangaroo Island SA owned by Jacques Lurton of Cheval Blanc fame. The Lurton family own vineyards around the world. This is 100% Cabernet Franc. Herbal tea leaf like notes which belie the sweetish medium weight palate. Red Currant with mild resolved tannins. Overall very pleasing and ready to drink. — 2 hours ago

Dry North Fork of Long Island Chenin Blanc 2019

Fresh squeezed limeade, reminds me of uncharacteristic chilly Autumn nights in Florida by the water. Lemongrass, palm , and pine.

Straight up apple cider, but also mango kulfi. Specifically mango kulfi. Tart keffir limes to round out, and then a brush of apricot.

Great medium acidity with tropical notes and a piney bouquet. Really lovely. Pleasantly surprised.

Wairarapa Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Lychee, spice and pineapple on the nose. A bit heavy on the tartness on the palate, but also some nice, lingering fruit. Goes great with spicy food and for the price, this is tough to beat. — 13 days ago
