Cuvee Monsignori Santorini Assyrtiko 2017

Greek wine evening, wine #4
Santorini Assyrtiko - a wine where the absolut lack of fruit is an asset!
Rich yet austere, salty, mineral, with great tension & energy, volcanic minerality, salty wet stones and just a tiny whiff of lemon peel.
Amazing depth, purity and length. This is sooo good!

Cuvee Monsignori Assyrtiko 2017

Popped and poured, no formal notes. The “Cuvee Monsignori” is made with fruits from some of the estates oldest vines; many well over 200 years old and (obviously) ungrafted. Beautifully layered tropical fruits, lime, wax, and minerals. While this was hugely complex, the biggest takeaway was the incredible texture and finish of this wine. It was rich, leesy and saline. A stunning example of Assyrtiko and perfect pairing with whole red snapper. — 3 months ago

Pre-phylloxera wine from 200year old grapevines. Intriguing wine with a great balance and depth. Fire and stone in the nose, great acidity and length. — 3 years ago

Hard to find anything other than superlatives for this. We finished a third today and are looking forward to how it evolves open over how many additional days we have the patience to sip without finishing it. — 4 years ago
