Concentrated raspberry and red plum aromas with glints and hints of red currant, cranberry and ripe red cherry. Tarragon strong with allspice afters. Very juicy center of this tootsie pop exhibits a slightly less sweet cherry, a touch of black pepper, cedar and cinnamon framing dense plum and both dried and ripe raspberry, subdued blackberry and a racy finish of cola and roobios pumping the brakes repeatedly on this well engineered rocket.

This wine is the 2012 Sea Smoke Southing Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir.
On the nose there is raspberry, cranberry, cherry, mushroom, clove, forest floor and earth.
On the palate I get plenty of raspberry, tart cherry, cranberry, clove, soft oak, mushroom and earth.
This is a medium bodied wine withe a smooth mouthfeel medium+ to high acidity and medium fine tannins that lead to a medium to medium + red fruit earthy finish. Definitely a beautiful wine and after 10 yeard of age is still fresh and youthful. I hope everyone's weekend has been fun and enjoyable as we look forward to another big week. Nose is a confiture of dark fruits, plum/prune with a spirity hint that seems nearly porty.
Certainly concentrated but not particularly elegant or balanced.

Jul 19th, 2020The 2016 Pinot Noir Southing is terrific. Finely cut and bright, with soaring floral and citrus overtones, the Southing offers a beguiling mix of deep fruit and aromatic intensity. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint and rose petal are all finely cut in a precise, mid-weight Pinot of real distinction. This is such a pretty wine. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2019)

Sep 26th, 2019The 2015 'Southing' Pinot Noir is an outstanding effort sourced from Sea Smokes' south facing Estate Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills. This Pinot Noir is absolutely delectable, however it needs some time in the glass before it begins to fully express itself. Once awakened, the nose evokes a fantastic range of aromatics from blood orange to smoky tones to red cherry preserves, which all come together beautifully. The palate reveals a wonderful velvety texture and a soft mouthfeel, backed by mouth-watering acidity along with a lovely underlying saline mineral steak. Delightful flavors of black cherry cola, mulberry, black tea and Asian spices continue to merge together and leave a gorgeous lasting impression on the finish. While is already absolutely delicious and nearly impossible to resist right now, it should also go on to age gracefully for at least another decade. Drink 2019-2033- 93
