This is always a treat. Really classy chardonnay that is strutting at almost 24yrs old. Very dense and rich with a color that is still bright yellow. Loads of fruit and preserving acidity, great as an aperitif!

3rd time I’ve had the chance to try this wine which was released more than 20 years after the vintage. It’s a real stunner, showing some secondary characteristics but not oxidized. This is what great chardonnay can become with age, showing the awesome terroir of the Charles Heintz vineyard.

Bit odd. Lots of funk.

Current release from Terry Leighton. Simply incredible. This is what California Chardonnay should aspire to be. 21 years in bottle and displaying stunning freshness and vibrancy. Much less oxidized than I imagined- slightly golden color with bright yellow reflections. Lemon peel and blossoms bursting out of the glass leading into apricot and honey. Gorgeous hazelnut and butterscotch aromas. Tasted blind I would have most certainly called this as older Meursault. A true joy to drink and a cult treasure for oenophiles to seek out. The QPR is what really elevates this to rockstar status.

This displayed a mature, rich and nutty bouquet, showing crushed seashells, dried tropical fruits, lemon, browned butter and dusty floral tones. On the palate, I found silky textures with brisk, balancing acid, with notes of dried mango, pear, apple, minerals and sage with a bitter twang. It finished long with a note of tart apple giving way to hints of butterscotch and lemon zest. Another great performance. Don't let the crazy looking cork scare you.

Rich, nutty, vanilla, brown butter, mildly oxidative, baked spiced orchard fruit--this is definitely not your lean mineral driven non-malo style--yet all that ripeness and flavor is offset by a palpable acidic core with smokey flinty finish. Like Chablis and Meursault together filtered through a Sonoma prism. It's a lot but it works. Very cool that he holds these this long before release
