Cahors Malbec 2016

Methinks 2016 was a good year for this #cahors Château. Inky purple color in the glass. Allow for an hour to open up and take the edge of the tannins; then the nose opens up with black bramble fruit, cassis, slight baking spices, vanilla, molasses and yet still that classic Cahors earth / mushrooms. On the palate it continues that dark fruit, medium pleasing acidity plus coffee finishing with some muscular tannins and a long finish. It might be a touch hot at 14.5% ABV, but not egregiously so. A Château-bottled red from the ancestral home of #malbec for $7 at Costco. Lamb chops or a porterhouse would be a stellar pairing. — 4 days ago

Vintage 2008 This #malbec #cahors wine has a lot to offer: nice red fruit in a promising nose, fair roundness and balance in an excellent and very fresh taste. What a good cuvee this is... — 3 years ago

Château de Grézels

Prestige Cahors Malbec Merlot 2014

70% #malbec 30% #merlot - complex, earthy nose; palate features dark fruit compote, otherwise very shy fruit with leather, smoked meat, coffee with chewy tannins. #cahors — 4 months ago

Haven’t tasted in three years. The mineral component has become more defined and pervasive: powderized rocks and black iron. Bitter almond, prunes and blackstrap. And still no stinking Merlot. #cahors #malbec — 2 years ago

Château Lamartine

Prestige du Malbec Cahors Malbec 2013

From Cahors in Southwest France, this 100% Malbec is pleasantly good for under $20. Showing initial black currant and plum on the palate, the time in French oak barrels has allowed the fruit to integrate nicely with the wood, leather and smokey layers, felt in the mouth. It's a rich, juicy and well structured wine at this price point.

Château de Haute-Serre

Géron Dadine de Haute-Serre Malbec De Cahors Georges Vigouroux

Inky, inky black color with rim to rim coverage. Dark melted chocolate with blackberries swimming, but less sweet than you are imagining. There is cinnamon, a caramelized, dehydrated plantain, almond extract, mocha grounds, and mahogany in abundance ethereally. Medium mouthfeel is the initial indicator of this wines pronounced balance, despite its varietal reputation. Dried currants, smoky, dry blackberry, cedar and a deep Madura tobacco and dusty cardamom, coriander and lavender with burnt citrus oils, and thick dark veils of iron and tallow suspended in smoking earth. It is hard to describe the dark, universe of beauty this wine embodies. Exceptional and profound.
