Bacharacher Hahn Spätlese Riesling 2007
The #BacharacherHahn vineyard is stunning to behold, but from below it is extremely steep and precipitous... Not for those like myself who become squeamish at such heights! No matter, the point is that #Riesling grapes love it there and there two glorious wines are proof of that. The 06 was the softer, more advanced wine, but with a finer core of ripe avidity holding it up and gentle #botrytis tones pervading throughout it was sheer pleasure to drink now. The 07 was too a splendid wine that will require a bit more cella ring before it's really at its peak of development... Patience is a virtue!

Bernkasteler Doctor Beernauslese Riesling 2006
Vintage comparison 06 and 07: one of merely 3 owners of the #BerncastelerDoctor vineyard; at one time amongst the most expensive pieces of real estate in the Western Europe. The pair of #Beerenauslesen, we were so very lucky to have had the chance to experience were both treasures that were served from half bottles, but you'd never have guessed it because they were so incredibly fresh. Key differences were the concentrated #botrytis spiciness and honeycomb flavors of the 06, while the 07 was a rich, luscious mouthful of intensely ripe #Riesling that reminded one of apricots, mango and white peaches. Even in a half bottle these wines are destined to last for decades. #Wegeler #Mosel

Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling 2006
Vintage comparison of 06 and 07: classic middle #Mosel beauties from one of Germany's greatest vineyards, the #BraunenbergerJufferSonnenuhr, which is the centrally located mid section and best part of the larger Braunenberger Juffer vineyard. Something about sundials on the Mosel that signifies very special quality. Indeed, these #Auslesen were both very special and the 06 was not at all over-stated or dominated by botrytis, which can only mean that the grapes were rigorously selected so as to give a more subtle impression of botrytis together with ideal ripeness. Meanwhile, the 07 was no slouch either, and showed how magnificent perfectly ripe #riesling grapes can be in the right hands. #ToniJost #auslese

Comparative tasting 06 and 07: the 06 was actually an off-dry wine Carl von Schubert has been making for a decade or so called "#Superior", but it pales in comparison to the regular #Herrenberg #Kabinett from 07. the more traditional style was the clear winner here and was an absolutely glorious wine that still has years of life ahead of it! #maximgrünhäuser
