Hattingley Valley

Rosé Blend 2014

Mother’s Day tipple - something a little different with an English Rose sparkling. Pale salmon in colour with a very fine bead. Strawberry notes on nose and palate. Very fresh, restrained and elegant. Well made and thoroughly enjoyable. A blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 38% Pinot Meunière and 2% Pinot Precoce - the latter variety I had never heard of. — 7 days ago

@Severn Goodwin Yes I agree Severn. When you think of things like the white cliffs of Dover etc there are a lot of chalky soils in the south of England - similar terroir to Champagne.

The only drawback, the pricing (in USD at least) is about the same as mid-tier Champagne, so if you're an uninformed consumer, you might opt for 'tradition' as opposed to taking a chance on something 'new'.

We used to live on the Dorset coast for a decade and a half. Delicious sparkling wine but gosh, some of the prices! 😬

Hattingley Valley

Classic Reserve English Sparkling Wine

A very enjoyable btl. On the nose: red apple, mint-inflected vanilla cream, soft lemon. On the palate: soft, slightly coarse mousse, fantastic acidity, sweet lemon, apple, soft cream, and then a refreshing tangy finish. Everything is well-proportioned. 53% Chard, 31% PN, 16% PM. Would love to try this again with more age. — a month ago

Hop Prism Blue India Pale Ale

Slightly higher alcohol but not a killer. Hoppy but not too bitter. Well balanced for a bigger beer. Good for an end of a busy work day. — 6 days ago

Rathfinny

Classic Cuvée Brut Sparkling Blend 2016

The inaugural 2016 Classic Cuvée from Rathfinny is as accomplished a wine as I have encountered in its class, with a fantastic nose of fresh cut red apples, pink grapefruit and some toast-like aromas which lend a complexity absent from some of this wine’s contemporaries. The palate is rich, broad and dry, with keen acidity. Very good stuff, especially for vines which in 2016 were only four years of age. — 10 days ago

Premium London Dry Gin

Very solid London Dry Gin. Cant go wrong in martini or other cocktail. I like it more than Beefeater, although it’s in the same sort of flavor range along with the less expensive Gordon’s. Worth having in the liquor cabinet. — 12 days ago
