First impression: smells like regular cheap whiskey. Taste, ditto, except stronger (65.1% after all). Great rye flavour though. Suspect that the other ingredients in most Canadian whiskey blends (eg corn) missing from this limited edition ‘best whiskey in the world 2020’ are part of the allure. Mine also had bits from the cask floating in the bottle (yay for authenticity?).
After allowing it to open up with a large ice cube: smells a lot more pleasant and almost like a 15 or 18 year aged whiskey. Taste is still the same initially but sipping obviously gives you a better full spectrum. Alcohol is numbing. Lots of complex flavours from the cask (toasted oak, dark sugar, rye bread) but they don’t linger as compared with 15 or 18 year blends. Would make a damn good strong old fashioned.
Update, 15mins later: I want cask strength whiskey from now on! — 6 years ago

Nemesis IPA by “Zero Issue Brewing” with its intoxicating aroma, intense grapefruit, passionfruit and citrus notes is an absolute stunner. 7.3 alc/vol. But that wasn’t the star of the night out in Calgary with Mrs A. We stumbled into the Charbar Restaurant featuring a culinary blending of Argentine wood-fired grilled entrees, and quiet Spanish and Italian notes. We shared a porterhouse steak from Alberta beef which maybe the best that we have ever had. Mitch the manager, the bartender Andrew, and the wait staff Hillary, Patrick and Shannon are the best. When in Calgary the Charbar is a must! The beer is a 9.0 and the Charbar is a 10.0. Cheers 🍻🇨🇦 — 7 years ago

Another nice young Nebbiolo. Already nicely mellow and drinkable. The usual plus some extra berry and dried roses. From Astor Wines. 05/07/23 — 3 years ago
When in the Great White North, one eats poutine and Alberta beef and drinks bold reds from the Okanagan Valley recommended by the friendly cashier. Brings to mind Columbia Valley Merlot, but on steroids in terms of the concentration of the color and intensity of the tannins (rustic, dusty), flavors and aromas reflecting the high, dry dessert UV intensity and long growing season sunlight hours (still light here in Canmore after 10pm). More dark fruit (blackberry, black currant, black plum—some raisened/craisen notes, but mostly ripe and fresh) and herbal character (menthol, thyme, resin) than I normally find in Merlot that makes this wine really intriguing and distinctive. I think I’ll have a second glass… — 4 years ago

My first time trying this “New England-Style” pale ale. The label says “Juicy and Hazy...It May look a bit like a milkshake and taste a bit like juice-but that’s the whole point”. I say that on a cool cloudy day waiting for the snow to come this Alberta beer is just plain good and will return to our house “ 5.5 % alc/vol, 35 IBU Blindman Brewing, Lacombe, Alberta Cheers 🍻🇨🇦 — 8 years ago

From my gal (whose palate is much better than mine but thinks tracking wine is too much work): Chilled and perfect. Dusky, ruby plum colour. Smells like sweet Alberta wild rose, cranberries, sour cherry, pie spice and a damp evening. Tastes like tart cherry, bell peppers and cola bottle candies. The chilledness walks a fine line between bright acidity and subtle tannins at the end. — 4 years ago

Strong and fruity. Full body. Perfect with red meat and a red sauce pasta — 6 years ago
Beautiful wine in Alberta at our favorite lake, Steven’s rec on dinner spot. Laura: velvet, sage and fruit on palate. Sweet, elegant, gentle. Joel: raspberry, ripe strawberry. Palate is elegance... acidity, tannins, fruit... all in balance. Reminds me of our favorite qualities in the lovely fruit and acidity of Burgundy. Mashed ripe strawberry, leather, spice. — 7 years ago

At the “Crazy Weed” restaurant in Canmore AB with Mrs A enjoying this wonderful Albertan IPA the menu says “Upfront citrus hop character with a subtle kiss of roast”. This is good. To all my Canadian friends and others this one is for you. @Shawn Thompson @Trixie @AgeyFixey @Severn Goodwin @Ron R @Stuart Scheff Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇨🇦 — 7 years ago

Best Italian I had was first bottle after getting home from Italy…
Earth, cran…. Subtle apricot and mint finish.
tannins softened as we killed the bottle.
