Figgins

Figlia Walla Walla Valley Red Blend 2017

Dedicated to Chris Figgins’s two daughters, the ‘Figlia’ is a massive blend of Merlot and Petit Verdot that is unlike anything produced in the state. Aged for twenty three months in French oak, this pitch dark wine starts off with lighter green bell pepper and sage tones that combine with toasty oak and a deep core of dark fruits that all sing in unison. Marvelously textured, with a wonderful weight and intensity, the wine shows off layers of creme de cassis, black olive tapenade, black cherry cordial and shades of anise that all create a seamless effect once on the mouth. The long and generous finish accentuates this beautiful new bottling. While marvelous to savor in its youth, the 2017 ‘Figlia’ will have a long life ahead of it. Be sure to give this at least a two hour decant if you can’t resist this wine for a few years. Drink 2022-2040- 95 — 2 days ago

Rallo

Soleras Vergine Riserva Venti Anni

NV / Twenty years old / I like Marsala as aperitive / this 20y old is one of my favorites / it is not easy to drink, has stunning complexity and many layers of taste / it smells sweet, raisins, but in taste it is ultimately dry with very present bitters / a certain earthiness — 3 days ago

Kirkland Signature

Barolo Nebbiolo

I saw this at my local Costco for $19.99 and was too curious to pass it up. I mean, a Barolo from Serralunga d’Alba for under twenty bucks? Shut the front door! Dark berries, figs, roses and tar on the nose. Smells like Barolo. Tart, dark fruits and herbs on the palate. Medium body. An almost saline like quality to it. Fierce tannins. Loads of structure. Long, saliva inducing finish. Tastes like a Barolo. This bottle held up well over three days. Really, this is killer value. Unsure of who produces this but my hunch is Fontanafredda but only because of the picture of Villa Reale on the label. Regardless, this is great QPR. — 16 days ago

@Delectable please add Hunnicutt Drift Rows.
Bright, ruby red. Promising nose. Full body. Prominent tannins throughout, but you get a sense of the fruit hiding behind the tannins as they poke out at different points. Mid way through you get plum and blackberry. Ends with cherry note. This needs time, but I liked it.
