@Delectable Wine this is the 2015 Rijk’s Cape Winemakers Guild Pinotage.
Our first time every at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction and we will make sure to come back! (Tasting was on 9/28/18).
Thirty-fifth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the twenty-third red wine. This is made up of 100% Pinotage by Pierre Wahl with fruit from Tulbagh. Aged for 22 months in a mix of new and second fill French oak barrels. Only 60 cases produced with 40 being auctioned in 2018.
Dark purplish ruby red. Some classic Pinotage notes on the nose with some smoky and savory elements, dark berries, purple flowers and slightly burnt rubber. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Big palate full of blackberries, black cherries, cedar and baking spices. Long and lingering palate with great mouthfeel. Drink till 2030.
$$$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R9,670.00 ($113.75 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R12,600.00 ($148.21 a bottle) and lowest bid was R7,800.00 ($91.75 a bottle).

First actual snow storm of the season? Why not prepare with a giant extracted Syrah! Unfined and unfiltered with tons of texture and structure. My palate is flooded with spices, warm dark earth, and smoked meats! Warms my soul! — 9 years ago

Nose of dark fruits, no jammy notes, full palate, still some primary fruit present, great balance and a long finish. — 9 years ago
Easy to drink. — 10 years ago
Very light. Plum with alcohol coming off the nose. Rich mix of flavors. — 4 years ago
Deep golden colour. Pure nose of peach and citrus with some vegetal notes like celery coming through. Big and bold flavours on the palate but with good acidity. Worked very well with Asian stir-fry. — 7 years ago
Delicious wine. Probably the best Pinotage ever tried yet — 9 years ago

Directly from South Africa from Julia. Deep kitsch cherry fruit with a grilled meat aroma. Nothing delicate here. Plums 5 spice, hint of orange. Will stand up to big meats. — 2 months ago
