Allen Brothers Lava Cakes/Soufflé & 1977 Port. Pinch me!
Whenever I have wine this old, I always ask the people I share it with, what were you doing in 1977?
The beautiful thing about really old Port is how it softens all the edges & the elevated ABV. Smooth as silk.
This was a 375ml and farther along than a 750ml. The color was more Tawny than Port at this point. Wine on the leaner side. The fruits were; Thompson raisins, dates, figs, prunes, and some dried blackberries. Caramel, molasses, melted brown sugar, Cognac & Brandy presence, subtle wood shaving, nuts, butterscotch, graham cracker, dark withering flowers with beautiful acidity. The long finish was; rich, polished, well balanced, smooth and persistent for minerals.
If we had gone out for this dinner, it would have been $2500 plus tip & it wouldn’t have been this good which, is why we choose to cook rather than go out.

Interesting exercise penciling it all out.

Purchased in Seaside Fl during the 2022 Red wine festival. 2018 vintage one of the best Pinot Noirs I’ve enjoyed. Smooth finish - will definitely search for more. — 2 years ago
Very nice wine did not decant but opened and hour before drinking, matured in bottle when pouring the second glass; guess I should have decanted after all. Certainly want more, thank you Mike & Gill Thompson for bringing this from wimbledon wine cellar. Soft but strong fruit, blackberry, lovely. — 4 years ago
Still dark purple color, richer and riper than the 2007 Turner, dark fruits, still showing pretty tannic structure, long finish, very good, but I prefer the freshness (better acidity, lower ABV (by 1%)) of the Turner, should improve another 3-5 years, or more. — 3 months ago
Dried black currants, Thompson seedless raisins, aged English Christmas pudding. So many layers of aromas! — 4 years ago
Nose has washed cherries, sliced Thompson grapes and dry sandstone.
Palate has mashed green/red table grapes, (light) citrus zest and green banana peel. Medium-short finish.
I'm still not seeing much improvement in this particular bottle of rosé, decent but not exciting. — 5 years ago
