Spätlese Rieslaner

2017 vintage. Concentrated fruit flavors of apricot nectar, perfectly ripe peaches, mango, pineapple, lychee, a little green banana skin, jasmine, a saffron note. Definite sweetness, but the acid comes through and delivers a very long finish. — 6 months ago

Feinherb Scheurebe 2016

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading GERSHWIN (Piano Concerto in F), GERSHWIN (Variations on “I Got Rhythm,” for piano and orchestra) and STRAVINSKY (Petrushka) with the amazing Jean-Yves Thibaude as the piano soloist on the two first works presented today. Jean-Yves is by far among our favorite pianists to grace the Koussevitzky Shed stage, so graceful, yet poignant!

Hot days call for cool wines, today there are some fun ones planned for sharing.

Nose has fresh fennel, cassis, freshly washed strawberry and ripe peach.

Palate has zesty acidity from ripe grapefruit or tangelo perhaps, ripe (light) kiwi and crushed mint.

So good, it's hard to keep a full bottle for long!

@Severn Goodwin Much appreciated, Thanks! I found it in Amsterdam, where I will be in a few weeks time. To attend a concert in the Royal Concertgebouw 👌

@Severn Goodwin this was awesome. We shockingly didn’t get to the leftovers until Tuesday night, and they held up like champs!

Cuvée TO Grignan-les-Adhémar Red Rhone Blend

I love this wine for what it is, an inexpensive crowdpleaser that can be enjoyed by most palates on pretty much any given night. It’s a wine you’ll always be glad to have at your table and never be disappointed by following that impulse to take a chance on a cheaper wine (my local shop has this ad one of their cheapest wines and I consider a steal when I get a bottle)

Auslese Rieslaner 2015

This was is sweet! Although not unexpected, the lushness and overt sweetness gives you pause after the first sip. On the second sip you begin to realize what a spectacular and special wine this is. Honey and tropical fruit salad on the nose lead to a lush, sweet, but spectacularly balanced palate with layers of pineapple, peach, papaya, mango and honey. I think Terry Thiese put it best himself, “this wine is impeccable and god-like. To repeat an old trope, you don’t drink it, it drinks YOU. Actually it eats you. It’s like the 3rd or 4th orgasms, wrenching and almost severe, exquisiteness squeezed inside out.” A steal of a wine at $25 and a spectacular pairing for spicy foods. — a year ago

@Severn Goodwin our pleasure! Infanticide on the Pi, but awesome to have a chance to check in on it. Very promising.

Domaine Weinbach

Schlossberg Alsace Grand Cru Riesling 2014

Lemon rind, yellow and green apple, petrol, ginger spice, doughy yeastiness, intense minerality, mouthwatering acidity. Delicious salinity.

Tropical notes of pineapple just starting to emerge.

Fades to a lovely lemon curd, lemon candy finish. 93

So seductively Alsatian.

Thank you so much for this beautiful gift Theo and Catherine!!
