This has a nice fresh nose of honeydew, tarragon and like a florist shops cooler (but not overly floral) if you know what I mean. To me there was hints of green pepper, dates and lemongrass that came out as you drank it. This went really well with some clams we had tonight. It also would be outstanding alone as well. Overall this is an outstanding glass of wine. — 5 years ago
The nose is an entire florist shop, such an intense bouquet! Dried tobacco and light strawberry play with rose petal on the palate. Must try wine of 2018! — 6 years ago
2005 Sine Qua Non "Atlantis Fe203-2a" California Grenache
15.3% alcohol. 93% Grenache and 7% Syrah. So I return yet again to sing the praises of one Manfred Krankl, the Man, the Myth, the Legend. I originally pulled this bottle for an El Ideas dinner I was unfortunately unable to attend. The bad news is that I missed the artistry of @phillipfoss. The good news is that it’s here tonight. This is a wine that demands your complete and undivided attention which it never would have received in a restaurant setting with other wines. It needs to be doted on like the pretty girl at the dance. It needs to be the absolute center of attention. One of the highlights (and there are legion) of any SQN for me is the aromatic extravaganza I’ve come to expect, and this wine’s initial profile when the cork is pulled is akin to walking into a florist. That perfumed fragrance just floods the room. More swirling reveals sandalwood, anise, dark berries with some orange peel and just a touch of mint. It’s intense. It’s like when the server removes the cloche on an @grantachatz Alinea dish, and that scent wafts up and just engulfs you. You become immersed in that sensory overload. The show continues with an initial palate of succulent red fruits and kirsch, with notes of dark chocolate, espresso and that mint I mentioned on the nose. Subsequent returns to the glass reveal hints of grilled meats, sage and forest floor. Tannins and texture are pure silk. Persistent, fresh and slightly spicy finish of great length. The wine is beautifully integrated. Complex. Elegant. Wonderfully pure. Perfection? Let’s just say that if this wine isn’t first in its class, it doesn’t take long to call the roll.

Smells like you just walked into a florist shop!!! Beautiful floral and citrus notes!!!! It also has a very mild salty or minerality component. Give this under appreciated grape a try. Paired well with our grilled salmon and risotto tonight. — 3 years ago
Very vinous, this one. Completely dry. An excellent cider. Wild apples rasterized. They do not grow these apples, they gather them from disused sites in Long Island. It’s a very cool project, but the cider that comes out of it is better than any I’ve had. I tend not to like cider, but again, this is the most vinous cider I’ve had. This bottle has a light effervescence, which these don’t usually have, usually they’re fermented totally dry and fermentation is complete and still. Could be this had a touch of rs on bottling, but it was totally dry upon opening. A fine effervescence that ends with an iodine note and some tongue coating tannins, some galangal, mint, and cinnamon verum, which are also on the nose, with lemon oil and raw sourdough. Some white cherries and neroli flavors on the tongue, and good acid, lift, and fine tannins that keep you coming back for more. This is excellent cider, full stop. Thanks @Erik Longabardi — 5 years ago
👃 Florist shop, lilac, freshly cracked black pepper, black raisin, blackberry, black cherry; 👅 Under-ripe blackberry, ripe black cherry, fresh fig, prune; Soft tannins and drinking great, really developing in the glass.
Corked pulled for slow oxygenation ~6H.

You can see through this liquid jewel like a piece of pomegranate colored tissue paper ~ wafting musky aromas reminiscent of walking out of a florist that also sells potpourri into a loamy earthen pasture ~ a flash of crunchy and vivid tart red berries quickly melds into a wild berry patch which is then dominated by said loamy earth, crushed minerals and a dusting of powdery pastilles — 6 years ago
Amazing! Worth the wait to try it after everything I’d read/heard. — 6 years ago

Nose is a florist shop on top of peach and nectarine. Peach, nectarine, pear, melon, white pepper, and honey on the palate. Sweet, medium alcohol, high acid, and long nectar finish. — 2 years ago
