Loved, hints of plum, full bodied, would buy again — 6 years ago
first wine I'm having from shvo vineyard.
the winemaker used to work at one of Israel's biggest winery and left, bought his own vineyard and that's his playground.
different grapes from mainstream Merlot, cabarnet sauvignon, sustainablity and non kosher are the magic words written about shvo.
clearly a wine critics winery.
this is a red blend of barbera, grenache, syrah and mourvader.
so gsm with added fanculo 😊
one year oak treatment.
14.5% ABV 💪
dense red with long legs 👀
leather and cigar box first. followed by peppercorn, vanilla, dark chocolate. some ripe cherry and dried plum finish the complex spicy 👃
medium + body.
medium - acidity.
silky spicebox with the cherry's tartness and some leather hints 👄
soft, tingling and pleasent tannins. medium🎯 with fruit leftovers lingering.
2015 is considered a problematic vintage in israel. this is complex and balanced. but the spice profile reminds me a 2015 syrah i had from a winery close by. so will be interesting to try another vintage to compare.
it's a very good wine. intresting and satisfying.
excellent vfm (90 nis). israely reds in that price wouldn't usually impress.
had it on it's own. feels gastronomic, we shall find out in a couple of hours when dinner will be served.
later on it worked pretty well with dinner and lunch the next day. feels like an easy day to day drinking red, made better.
looking forward to try some more shvo.
24hr later the fruit came forward and the body felt firmer. still great... — 7 years ago
I had a typical tourist experience with this wine. Went to the winery on a recommendation from a friend while on vacation, and loved it. We had some sent home and didn't know if we would like it when we weren't surrounded by the magic of vacation. Turns out we still love it.
Sweet like a reisling, but not anywhere near as cloyingly sweet as you would expect. Beautiful sweet summer afternoon wine. It tastes more like a reisling with overtones of pineapple. We just ordered another box for the holidays. If you're only happy with dry and deeply complex whites you won't enjoy it. But if you also appreciate light and sweet, this experiment in pineapple wine is a must-try. — 11 years ago
Firing on all cylinders! This wine is absolute peaking right now! Fresh violets, plum, blackberry, cigar box, dark chocolate, subtle oak, velvety silky tannins. I haven’t tasted this since we bottled it back in 2019 and wow oh wow has time done its magic on this. We built it to age and aged it had! Easy 10 more years of prime drinking ahead — 7 months ago
Had pilot noise but not an option I'm app. Dangerous wine, smooth and tasty. — 4 years ago
Astounding! Damp earth, cedar box, and lots of leather on the nose. Incredibly smooth in the mouth, and quite light. Long spicy finish. It’s changing as I drink it. I love it — 4 years ago
Tony and his wife Herta purchased 30 acres of land in the Napa Valley with the magic ingredient - location. With a splash of Malbec added, aromas of dark berry fruit and cigar box spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and raspberry with cacao, licorice and herb notes. Fine tannins, nice acidity, good balance on long finish ending with fruit and cedar notes. Drinking well now! — 5 years ago
Twice-flambé-d bananas foster. Oak char, tea biscuit, brown sugar, baked graham cracker crust, vanilla bean, chocolate edibles. Incredible mouthfeel, vacillates between creamy-sweet and an almost brassy pètillant resonance, whose impulsiveness is tamed by the soft influence of oak. Everything is right with this combo of red ale and oak. Just enough restraint here to let the elements work their magic. Bitter entry subduing sweet notes of Turkish coffee, milk chocolate, cigar box, rum raisin, cinnamon stick. — 7 years ago

What a killer balance of opposites on the nose: a wave of bright, ripe berries is followed by an aged, black-fruit-forward note that kinda reminds me of Rioja reserva! An elegant cologne-scent peaks out behind waves of fresh fruit. On the palate, that subtle interplay continues. I love the amount of leather, cologne, and cigar box I get on this fresh, new-world delicacy! Magic! — 8 years ago

Decent dry Grenache-based rose for a nice sunny evening with a fine cigar. Cohiba Maduro 5: Absolute magic smoke with perfect humidity and deep mellow nuttiness, leather, sandalwood, cedar, spice box. Amazing subtle complexity that holds your attention and keeps you coming back for another draw. 9.8. Thanks Mark. — 11 years ago
First red. Enjoyed. — a year ago
Mention “Monvigliero” around any Barolo nut and there is a better than good chance you might witness the following behavior: waxing poetic in hushed tones, sighing, swooning…possibly fainting. Monvigliero truly is the zeitgeist. For over 40 years, Comm. G.B. Burlotto (and Fratelli Alessandria before them), have quietly been making great single-vineyard Monvigliero and it was only in the last 10-15 years that the world started to catch on to the magic that was happening in Verduno. In the last handful of years alone, there have been a flurry of producers with holdings in Monvigliero that have released their own single-vineyard expression. However, what many may not realize is that Enrico Scavino and his daughters have been producing a “Monvigliero” since 2007, making them one of the first half dozen to do so. I’m only suggesting that the Scavino’s knew there was something special there well before the hype train came to the station.
Popped and poured; enjoyed with dinner and over the course of a couple hours. The 2020 “Monvigliero” pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. The nose is gorgeous; seemingly darker fruited with blackberry, pomegranate, black cherry lozenges, roses and spice box. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin (though friendly) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and lithe. An elegant wine and downright delicious. I think Paolo Scavino did a fabulous job of capturing the synergy of what Mother Nature gave in the 2020 vintage and the source of their fruit in the heart of the Monvigliero MGA. These are very early days for this wine but it’s already a joy to drink now but I expect this will continue a lovely evolution through 2038, easy. — 2 years ago
This was my favorite wine today that seemed to just keep building in the glass showing the classic LMHB magic. Black fruits, soy, graphite, cedar, leather, licorice, mineral, cigar box & violet. A magical vintage for me that I have had many times & never disappoints! — 5 years ago
Very fruity, full bodied, very plum like — 6 years ago
