Medium ruby with quite narrow terracotta , garnet rim. Cut herbs , raspberry, dried red cherry , dried rose , slightly smoky note and a basalt , stony hint. On the palate quite rounded and ripe with some red focused sweet sous bois , raspberry coulis and dried herbs , anis , dried herbs . Alcohol does stick out a bit with medium quite rounded sweet tannin , with just balanced acidity . Reasonable anis , black tea and dried herb finish . This is at the end of its drinking window but still showing quite well . Drink now , and I would recommend serving at a relatively cool temperature — 4 months ago
Opened about an hour prior to taking dinner at Via Farina. The 2015 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. No obvious signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of powerful, dark and red fruits: black cherry, ripe strawberries, horse blanket, red flowers, new leather, black tea, exotic spices and dry earth. A touch of VA. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a beautiful, powerful example of Terre Nere BdM with the best parts of the 2015 vintage on full display. Bold and balanced. Lovely now and wouldn’t hesitate to open one if you’ve been patiently waiting. A solid pairing with a variety of central Italian fair. Drink now with some air and through 2035. — 11 days ago
Super concentrated & quite aromatic. Salty beach pebbles, ripe apricots, but also a bit of salted caramel, tarte tatin and a lot of rocky, salty minerality. Intriguing.
Quite unctuous & rich on the palata, but also very fresh - zingy acidity, salty minerality countering the richness. This is definitely a food wine… but such an interesting one. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I love it! — 2 months ago
Terre di San Leonardo is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (40%), and Carmenere (10%), run by the Gonzaga family since its inception in 1724. Wine is fermented with ambient yeasts in concrete tanks and 20% is aged in French oak barrels. Ruby with aromas ripe red fruits and floral notes. On the palate flavors of rich plum and blackberry with herb, light spice and slight earthy notes. Medium+ finish, fine soft tannins, ending with fruit, floral and earthy mineral character. Blend of blend of 60% Carricante, 25% Catarratto, 10% Grecanico and 5% Minnella, aged in French oak for 10 months. Pale lemon with aromas of stone and citrus fruits adding honeysuckle blossom. On the palate flavors of apple, apricot and lemon citrus with creamy vanilla wrapped in generous acidity, long finish ending with wet stone minerality. Nice! — 9 hours ago
