Enticing & seductive with spicy, fresh red fruit, with some ripe cherry, a touch of amarena and a fresh, mineral edge. So fresh, lively, inviting.
Light yet luscious on the palate, vibrant juicy cherry acidity. Love the tannins - grippy yet sappy and quite polished.
Cherries & raspberries with a orange peel sidekick. Delicious.
This is a great wine - authentic & so fresh & juicy yet elegant at the same time.

Lanzaga, the entry-level offering from Spanish cult winemaker Telmo Rodríguez, is drawn from several of his high-altitude vineyards in Lanciego, Rioja. Rodríguez describes his Lanzaga project as a harking back to the 18th century, before Phylloxera, and before Rioja lost its way pleasing Bordeaux (Rodríguez’s wines are now sold via the Place de Bordeaux). I like his vineyard-oriented approach to winemaking, something that’s growing in fashion in Rioja and, for me, that’s no bad thing. But this wine feels a little lacking in typicity, either regional or varietal, and I’d certainly struggle to pick it out in a blind tasting. It’s really fresh, crunchy, clean and quite reminiscent of Cabernet – this could be a modest left bank Bordeaux blend. The finish is a little short and, though it’s objectively a very nicely crafted wine, I had higher hopes. — 2 years ago

Nice nose that reminds me of La Folle Noire d'Ambat from Domaine le Roc in Fronton. There is a bit of a wild thing on the nose, with nice cherry and black cherry notes, there is also an iron, metallic touch. Some savoury scents add some complexity. The palate is juicy, acid driven, with some width, some savoury notes all along, like worcestershire sauce. There is a bit of a tannic grip in the rear and a rather long and juicy, and grippy finish that goes on for a while and ends up with that umami flavour. This is very good and a great value at about 17 USD in equivalent local currency. Warmly recommended. 14% abv — 5 months ago
