I love this wine. While there are better vintages than others, it truly never disappoints. This ‘12 was singing along. 8 years in, its still a baby, but with a nice decant. YUM. If you could smell the sun drenched Sangiovese that would be it. Red fruits, but muted. White pepper and refined leather made this interesting. Longer finish capped a great wine. Still could develop for another decade. — 10 days ago
Deep ruby hue with garnet rim variation. Mild extraction on the glass with heavy tearing. Nose offers red fruit, such as fresh cherry and raspberry, also muddled blackberry, leather, tobacco, tomato leaf, cured meat, vanilla, and cinnamon notes. Consistent notes on the palate, with mouth-watering acidity and soft tannins. Medium+ finish. Vintage 2011. ABV 14%. #Pergolaia #caiarossa #toscana #winesoftuscany #Italianwinelover #supertuscan #sangioveseblend #winedownwednesday — a month ago
This reminded me of the “dog food” analogy - meaning, this isn’t quite ready for human consumption.
@Robert Evans Jr needs to do his job and post all the wines...
This was good, but not great in my mind. Herbs and tobacco on the mid palate. Still a tannic monster. Good structure, but should have decanted this. Hold on to this vintage. — 17 days ago
Smooth, balanced. Very nice. — 3 days ago
Best Tuscan wine I've ever had. — 7 days ago
Showed a lot of crushed dark fruit but balanced with a fair amount of tannin. Still young and was delicious with a sausage pizza. — 2 days ago
With my homeboys celebrating a bday, while rest of NYC is watching the Super Bowl. An amazing skin contact Italian, from Montalcino no less. Broad but still somehow terroir driven, definitely drink close to room temp. Yellow/ light orange hue, nice mouthfeel and enough prickly acidity to play off the Sicilian. sashimi w Meyer lemon & chili oil but also to keep up with everything else (delicious).
