Le Saint-Estèphe de Montrose Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Blend of 49% Merlot, 43% Cab Sauv, 4% Cab Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, aged in 30% new and 70% one-year old barrels for 12 months, deep Ruby with aromas of red/black fruits and notes of tobacco and earthy herbs. On the palate flavors of Black cherry, raspberry and currants, light cigar spice, cacao and herb notes. Firm approachable tannins, long finish ending with fruit and earthy mineral character. 2016 vintage. Those classic Leoville-Barton feminine stylings. Light/light-medium body. Delicate and soft but with enough concentration to do the usual LB dance...gliding along for decades with almost imperceptible drop off/loss. Château Haut Coteau

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

I was previously unfamiliar with this producer but they appear to be rather small by Bordeaux standards. The 2016 Haut Coteau pours a deep purple with medium viscosity. On the nose, medium intensity, with cassis, earth, plums, tobacco, baking spice. On the palate, again dark tart fruits with earth and wet stone. Quite a lot of structure here with medium+ tannin and acid. The finish is long and bitter…a touch green to be honest…but this is really fairly classic Saint-Estèphe and I actually think another 5-10 years will be quite kind to this bottle. — 14 days ago

Located on the outskirts of the medieval town of Saint-Emilion, at the southern foot of the slope. A blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cab Franc &10% Cab Sauv, aged in 60% new oak, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruit with cedar & spice. On the palate flavors of ripe dark berry fruits, cacao, tobacco and espresso notes. On the palate, rich, full bodied, cherry, dark berry, leather, chocolate, minerals/salinity, citrus peel, hints of grapefruit or blood orange. Long finish. The citrus peel lingers. Like forever. Yum. So balanced, so addictive. Easy dark red fruit upfront with a smooth small grained tannins and white pepper creating a silky but penetrating finish that lingered. 2016 vintage. World-class nose of panini sando bread/grilled pain au levain, lavender, molasses, bruised plum and wine-country kitchen. Dark as a moonless night. Medium-heavy/heavy body with a brooding, hide-and-seek, mid-palate presence. Slightly spicy finish. Needs a half-decade to come grooving up slowly. Steel yourself to treat this with more patience than most but not as much as some. If opening soon, decant for at least two hours. — 6 days ago

Saint-Emilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

See previous note which was my longest ever Delectable note. This wine has such an interesting story. Virtually unknown and surrounded by Right Bank royalty like Evangile, La Dominique and Petrus. Mainly Merlot with a small % of Cabernet Franc. Dark fruits with blackberry and a touch of vanilla. Only medium weight with soft fine tannins. Quite detuned. Cost $45 and drinks to its price point unlike the expensive wines produced by the neighbours. This tiny 0.4 hectare block’s grapes would normally be absorbed by one of the neighbours and end up in a much more expensive Cuvée. The previous Delectable note is incorrectly called Chateau Vieux Chantecaille but the lengthy description refers to this same wine. — 15 days ago
