A well reviewed vintage after several poor years.
1.5 hour decant (some chunky sediment). A thrilling dark ruby red with little bricking. On the nose: green veggie, eucalyptus, earth, smoke, plum, and a little of that aged Bordeaux sweetness thrown in there too. Taste: leather, cedar, little raspberry, and gravel. Low acidity, a medium graphite finish with some slightly bitter tannins.
Lean and mean....where's the elegance and character???..........drink em if you got em, don't think more age will help. Careful with Bordeaux 95....from my experience, don't believe some have aged well. My last 95 is a Margaux and I am going to pop in a hurry. — 9 days ago
Aerated 2 hours and the consumed over 2 days. Almost purple in color. Nose of loam, dark fruit and cedar. Palate of dark berries, plums, graphite and licorice. Smooth tannins. Finish of medium length. We enjoyed this with a strip loin roasted in my BGE. Favorable PVR. @andrew schirmer and @nancy dwight were sheltering in place. — 7 days ago
WNH virtual tasting - notes are sexy long lasting beautiful drink of wine - omg and it can last 20 plus years - 100 pointer by RP but not for me but I would never turn down a glass of this - I can’t believe I am down to doing an analogy of sex to how wine is but these are the times of social distancing - and being a gentleman I will refrain from the seedy details except to say until we meet again Montrose - all smiles — a day ago
I thought I would open another LLC tonight. The 86 is one of my favorite drinking vintages. This was classic & old school that has a burly, muscular style & is starting to enter its drinking window with many years ahead displaying black fruits, cassis, graphite, iron, leather, forest floor, brown spices & tobacco. This btl was in perfect shape showing how monumental this wine can be. — 5 days ago
30+ minute decant was perfect. Definitely right in the drinking window. Purple color. Awesome nose filled with slate, graphite, and earth. Wine has medium depth with black cherries and all the factors found in the nose. Not super complex, but good QPR. Medium finish. — 4 days ago
Open and low-toned nose has dark plum and blackberry, a bit of vanilla, and a liquid mineral/iodiney note. Soft and intense, it’s got mostly savory flavors that cling nicely and are a bit athletic right now. A couple of years will put this already nice wine in an even better place. — 7 days ago
Ok but still a little harsh. Not as good as other petite syrahs we’ve had. Skip next time or age even more. — 10 days ago
So what a difference time can make - this is young and powerful and bold and big red fruit - still young - but decanted for two hours and bam wham big time good - I love the integration of the 57% merlot and 43% cab franc - thank you Phillipe Melka for such a wonderful mastered crafted wine - bravo and deep smiles — 3 days ago
Very good! One of the better Malbecs we’ve had. Would definitely get again. Not overly spicy or fruity. Smooth. — 3 days ago
