St. Francis Winery

Château Destieux

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

This is excellent, one of the best Bordeaux I have tasted. Rich and dark purple in the glass, the nose reminds me of great Napa juice. Full of blackcurrant, cedar, leather and vanilla aromas. Palate is soft, rounded and just delicious with plenty of dark fruit, plum, tobacco and liquorice. The finish is long with some soft tannins and light acidity. I will go back tomorrow and pick up another couple of these, there is no better recommendation than that. If you love Napa Cabernet and modern style Bordeaux this is perfect. — 7 days ago

Bouquet of spicy dark fruits and cherries. Initial taste of quick sweet tart dark cherries. A hint of pepper at the finish. A quick finish. Very drinkable. — 6 days ago

Trinchero Napa Valley

Mario's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here's a fantastic one from California.

Pretty color of dark ruby with a reddish rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, black currants, dried figs, tobacco, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, cola and peppercorn. Great nose.

Full bodied, elegant and smooth, with medium acidity and fat legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black cherries, raisins, toasted cedar, leather, vanilla, tobacco, licorice, chocolates, medium roasted coffee, coke, sweet spices and black pepper.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This is a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Well balanced with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.

The nose is gorgeous and I just kept on smelling on it for a long time.

This 5 year old is drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years and beyond.

Good right out of the bottle and better after 90 minutes of airtime.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet is just plain delicious. Tangy and interesting, rich yet elegant.

Aged for 20 months in French Oak barrels (70% new).

14.8% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$50.

Château Cos d'Estournel

Les Pagodes de Cos Saint-Estéphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Very masculin wine with granite, tar, leather, liquorice notes with amazingly soft silky tannin. It opens in 30 min to this explosion of aforementioned notes with black fruit in the background. Green bell pepper in the background give away the youth. It should develop very well over the years. Great length: good 35 seconds on the palate. Now I need to try the real deal COS from the same vintage. — 3 days ago

Château Canon-la-Gaffelière

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Similar to my prior note. Dominated by burning wood and campfire aromas and flavors. Decanted for 1hr+ but probably could have PnP’d. My style, but could use more depth. Medium plus finish. French Bordeaux all the way, no question! — 5 days ago

Roberts + Rogers

Louer Family St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

It’s not actually true that all Napa Cabs are strictly homogeneous. It’s just that so many try to copy a certain style with poor results but quite a few of them are hits. Dense purple in the glass with wide edges. Huge nose of oak, blackberries, sage, and leather. There’s the most subtle element of underbrush which recedes so fast you may wonder if you imagined it.

That’s probably the only subtle thing going on here. It is indeed a NapaCab and everything is in your face, just not in an abrasive, cloying way. This has everything those lesser Cabs could only dream of: nice structure, good balance, and depth. It is concentrated and dense but some time will help with that. Very well crafted.

Beautiful fruit on the palate. Blueberry cobbler, cherry pie, and plums. Some more oak, tobacco, and a touch of graphite go a long way. Long finish with some nice spice. A really nice representation of Napa Valley Cabernet.

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1998

! !Yarivyo Wine Score!
9.1

Leoville Barton Saint Julien Grand Cru Classe is a lovely Bordeaux that shines again again over vintages. It seems to me that it never surrendered to the Parker impact and stayed true to its old school nature of restrained power and complexity at a good value.
This wine needs time to mature, it’s not made for early drinking and it requires patience and this patience pays of!
The 1998 is simply singing these days and I am so happy I secured a case! The wine is earthy with notes of dry leaves, dump forest floor, coffee, licorice, black currents and cigar box, the body is full and complex with lovely dry tannins that add a nice touch of sophistication and complexity, the finish is long and elegant. Old school and delicious!

Château Lafon-Rochet

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

! !Yarivyo Wine Score!
9.1

This Chateau Lafon Rochet from the superb 2005 vintage is beaming with elegance, still a bit young, yet delicious, sublime and tempting.
My old tasting note stays firm as I go through the case, the nose is a bit restrained yet tempting and complex, notes of black currents, leather, earth, oak, dust and pepper. The body is full with round tannins and balancing acidity, the finish is long and chewy. I recommend a couple of hours decanting before enjoying at this early stage.

Château Montrose

La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

My first time using my new Coravin. Fun toy. This is a beautiful, very drinkable wine, albeit a few years too young. It feels like it’s holding back a little though, almost like a powerful car that is confined to the speed limit. — 7 days ago
