Sole Di San Martino

Villa Cafaggio

Riserva Basilica San Martino Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2017

First time trying Chianti. This one specifically was a Chianti Classico riserva. It is a red wine from Italy. It takes a minimum of 24 months of aging with at least 3 months of bottle aging after that. Organoleptic features. Not as dry as I thought it would be. Strong earthy notes which I have experienced for the first time. A lot to taste but easy to enjoy. — 11 days ago

Villa Cafaggio

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2018

Basilica Caffaggio is one of the more famous producers located in the Western Sector of Chianti Classico’s Panzano UGA; specifically the middle elevation band of San Martino in Cecione (approx. 300m elevation). The geology is largely shale.

Popped and poured. The 2018 Caffaggio Chianti Classico pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core and a slightly watery rim; medium viscosity. No obvious staining of the tears and no signs of particles or gas. On the nose, the wine is intense. Funky cherry, red flowers, dried earth, bergamot, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry and structure is medium+ across the board. The fruits and non-fruits are confirmed with loads of minerals; there is a long savory finish. A very nice Chianti Classico that fits the bill. Drink now or over the next 10 years.

Reserve Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2017

2017 vintage. Oooh that nose. Browned butter and herbs and oak and dill. Hot damn. Gimme scallops or Dover sole for a perfect pairing. Heavy body. Generous oak. Just enough acidity. Color is impressively yellowed. A showstopper with attitude. Woof. Comparably priced White Burg? Haha like 4x price wise. — 2 years ago

@Paul T- Huntington Beach This one was the Reserve but the regular Estate Chard is worth aging as well.
