Yarden Galilee Chardonnay 2017

In my quest to compare old v new world kicking it off with olld world. I was worried this would be an oak bomb based on some previous vintages but there is restraint here. Golden vanilla and somehow green on the nose. The palate is bordering on rich but not. Cool climate fun that is balanced by baking spice and sass. I like this. If you want kosher for Passover (albeit not mevushal) this is for you. I’m neither of those things but finding it a pleasant Chard that flirts with oak just enough to keep enjoying. — 8 days ago

Unfiltered Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016

I’ve had a lot of Sass and it always hits the spot. Mossy and earthen yet light and subtle. Tight acids because it’s young but it will learn to relax. Cherry cola after a few swirls. — 7 months ago

Lovely nose. Tweed jacket, licorice, earthy, ripe and juicy. Terrific acidity, deeper than sass russ, ripe and really wonderful tannins. Long. Very pure. Very long. Excellent. Really powerful and wonderful structure and super velvety tannins pump out the deep licorice/black/red cherry pure fruit. — 9 months ago

Oro de Calabaza Artisan Golden Ale

Banana white crown with medium foam breaks down staccato. Amphibious glyphs. Smells like the inside of a butternut that has been rinsed with balsamic and mirin, then filled with diced carrot and pickled banana peppers. Oak dusted citrus entrance; tangerine and lemon with their nectarine chaperone. Hay and banana pepper with mined salt and white pepper. Dusty cedar and cypress, oregano and nutmeg. Amazing, gutty beer with nuanced elegance. Full of sass, and bawdy, but a gem of a catch! — 4 months ago

Second to last bottle from harvest. Drank with Mac, with Monday night steaks 7/1/19

Takes a little time to open, still lush. Less nose than expected: dark fruit and potting soil. On the palate lush and concentrated, with notes of stewed cherry, hints of cranberry, violet, earth, green, and a medium finish with surprisingly decent grip. Slightly unbalanced acid and low on fruit, may be hitting its age cap

Deep, damson mid season cherry, licorice, anise, rustic nose, juicy, complex, huge furry tannins. Well made, decent length, balanced and pretty, elegant. Needs air.

On day 2 this is transformed. Ripe and rich with wonderful stylishness and pure deep fruit. Terrific wine.
