Iโm loving the aromatics on this rosato from Veneto, Italy! ๐ฎ๐น
@lulu_lara_g I can see (and taste) why you enjoyed it so much and agree there is a lot to unpack here! ๐ค๐ง
Itโs comprised of 100% Rondinella grapes, native to Italy. This variety is a common blending partner in the red wines of Valpolicella and Bardolina. ๐ Here itโs holding its own at center stage with notable florals on the nose, including elderflower, rose, and chamomile, alongside fruit notes of starfruit, cantaloup, raspberry, grapefruit pith, fresh herbal notes of chervil and fennel, and wet stone. ๐น
On the palate, itโs dry, has medium acidity, medium alcohol, and medium intensity in flavors. Flavors are largely consistent with the nose, but Iโm also tasting Smarties candies -- both sweet and tart/tangy at the same time. It brings me back.

This wine is almost old enough to drink wine (in the U.S.)! Saluti! ๐ท
It hails from the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG region of Tuscany, Italy. ๐ฎ๐น
It was produced from vines planted at 2,000 ft altitude above sea level. ๐ It aged 4 years before release to the market, 3 of which were in oak casks and six months of which were in the bottle that sits before us right now. ๐๐
This wine is made from 100% Sangiovese, a grape, especially with the Brunello clone, that is known to produce a powerful wine with naturally high acidity, firm tannins, and expressive aromatics (built to age). ๐
I could see it being an excellent pairing with roasted red meats or savory pasta dishes. ๐ฅ
It has a deep garnet hue. ๐ Its nose offers developed aromas of baked black cherry, dried fig, sweet balsamic, roasted tomato, sandalwood, clove, nutmeg, cigar, tobacco, leather, mushroom, forest floor, and earth. ๐
On the palate this wine is dry, it has medium+ acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol, and medium(+) tannins, along with medium(+) flavors consistent with the nose. The finish lingers. ๐
What an opportunity to buy this aged beauty from Jimโs basement. Thank you, @h_obf @sommnow ๐๐๐๐
