Mas La Plana Penedès Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Had to treat my wife. Which works excellent with this voluptious spannish gun. Rich in cherries, plum, cinnamon, combined with the more Classic bordeaux tones line pencil led, ceddarwood, leather and bayleaf. Slight hint of sweatness and smooth tanine. And a big smile from the misses. — 8 days ago

Goldkapsel Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2011

Last weekend turned out to be a 2011 extravaganza and thankfully, a rather pleasant one. Not my favourite vintage in Europe, with the Mosel churning out many wines that could occupy higher pradikat levels than stated. Nevertheless, the best examples had a ripe delicacy, showing lightness and freshness within the opulence. That was just exactly what the Prum GK portrayed - rich and earthy notes wrapped in crackling acidity. Pure aromas of mango, peach, orange, fresh quince, and cream, with a light honey note and lovely floral qualities. The palate manages to remain very juicy, despite the ripeness and botrytis. Immense weight and finish, as expected of a GK. Complains? I felt the botrytized notes could have come off a little cleaner on the palate. There is slightly too much musky-savoury element, although it does not disrupt the freshness of the wine. MO also detected a slight bitterness in the finish and she felt the minerality could be more pronounced, both points I don't really agree with but hey... she's got a better palate than me. — a month ago

in 375ml w corroded cap and minor signs of leakage ~ nose a bit advanced but not off in an oxidized way ~ palate still 10 years YOUNG ~ why I’m never afraid to try a potential “problem” bottle — 12 days ago

Viña Almaviva S.A.

Almaviva Puente Alto Red Blend 2014

Viña Almaviva has earned the status as one of Chile’s most prestigious wines, and the 2014 certainly possesses the qualities to live up to that esteemed reputation. This utterly captivating blend includes 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Carmenère, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, which spent 18 months in new French oak. Displaying an impressive dark, inky color, this sensational red blend opens to profound aromatics of ripe blackberries and dark currants woven together with spices and cigar box, underlined by savory herbs, roasted coffee and dark chocolate nuances, which all beautifully take shape together. Full-bodied and remarkably structured this continues to impress with its remarkable depth and concentration, as layers of ripe dark fruits are framed by exotic spices. This continues to impress, as it shows excellent poise through the long multidemsional finish. While its pedigree is already quite apparent, this will demand at least a few years of bottle age before it will hit its stride. Nevertheless a sensational, age-worthy wine, which will thrive in the cellar for many years to come — 20 days ago
