Made by the virtuoso winemaker of the Porongorups, Rob Diletti….. this time for himself instead of contract winemaking as he often does for his neighbours. Also Rob is an indemand Show Judge. Rob Greer has got to be the alchemist of oenology! He took a terrible vintage and has produced pure California gold. Finish goes on and on and on. I need to let it sit open for a while to open up. It might have to open up in my stomach! — 8 years ago

Delectable this is the Magpie Hill Reserve Shiraz not offered in your choices. Dukes better known for their award winning Rieslings but the Porongorup district of Western Australia also produces lovely spicy peppery meaty Shiraz with notes of liquorice, herbs and charcuterie. This is the first of 6 bottles bought at the Cellar Door a few years ago. Contract winemaking by the talented Rob Diletti from neighbouring Castle Rock Estate. Great value at only $31 AUD for a wine of this quality. Had another bottle 37 weeks later on the 21st December 2024 with consistent notes. Still can’t believe what great value this Shiraz is. — 3 years ago

Tasted blind, presented by Sue Bell. I picked Riesling, Australian and missed Porongurups WA. A brilliant Riesling made by Rob Diletti at Castle Rock WA. Lovely aromatics of Musk and Bath Talc. Trader Joe’s - $14 - Received as gift from Rob & Jackie. Will rate when I try it. This wine is excellent! Very good Italian wine. Very smooth, light and not too dry. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a dry red Italian wine. I usually favor Cabernet Sauvignon but, this is exceptional. — 9 years ago
