Royale Réserve Brut Champagne Blend

Blend of Pinot Noir (66%), Chardonnay (35%) and Meunier (3%) Medium gold color. Aromas and flavors of citrus, apple cider, ripe pear, white flowers and freshly baked bread. Touch of oxidation. Large amount of soft mousse and consistent bubbles. Fruit forward and well structured. So light, crisp and refreshing. Cheers to Baby Amelia!!! — 13 days ago

Clos des Goisses Champagne Blend 2002

Golden in color. Hints of toast and nuts. Dried apricot and honey but still has some slate and a fine lemon acidity to brighten. A great time to drink this as it has the vibrancy of youth but the complexity of age. Great detail and texture. Lovely — 2 months ago

Brut Blanc de Noirs Champagne Pinot Noir 2015

Old gold bordering on copper in the glass. The nose is immediately expressive with notes of peaches, ocean mist, and red apples. Honeydew and plums all day with a light dusting of cinnamon. There’s a quintessential touch of hot buttered toast to compliment.

So classy and so well defined. This certainly grows in the glass over time and becomes even better than you expected and honestly, you expected a lot. 100% Pinot Noir from Premier and Grand Crus. Autolytic and full bodied, this is a powerful champagne that is still so young and fresh. Very zippy due to the low dosage. Years and years to go.

The fruit is more present on the palate with dried cherries and figs prominent. Orange peels and apples. A bit of warm spice on the long finish. Lovely, lovely stuff. Electric and alive.

Le Léon Extra Brut Champagne Blend 2015

Quite a deep , copper tinged colour . Quite rich and dense on the nose , with brioche , lemon peel , baked apple , red currant and strawberry . On the palate quite rich also , toasty and red fruit focused, with buttered pastry , baked apple and some mineral hints in the background . Quite vinous and serious in style . Good fresh acidity and long saline tinged finish . Drinking well now but will age well further over the next 5-10 years — a month ago

2008 doesn’t disappoint. My other bottles will lay down for another 5 years plus.

It is fresh, lush, rich with great o2. The flavors burst onto the palate. Bruised apple, Bosc pear, ginger ale to ginger, cream soda, cream, lemon, lime, orange citrus, biscuit, yeasty, limestone, chalk, saline, baguette crust, yellow & white florals, the acidity is outstanding. The finish is well balanced, structured, big structure and lasts two-minutes.

Pictures of my October visit Philipponnat. Pano from their Clos de Goisses of the beautiful Cote de Blancs, upward look at their Clos de Goisses, Clos de Goisses signage as you walk up to that vineyard and their cellar.

Really good w/ Himalaya Pink Salt Popcorn!!!

Oh hell yes! Assuming you also drank Clos de Goisses: what’s your feeling on when those will be ready?

@Jay Kline that spends 12 years on lees. Despite that, 8-10 plus if you want it super special.

Clos des Goisses Brut Champagne Blend

Again slightly deeper colour . Quite rich and ripe on the nose with brioche , baked apple , lemon peel , touch of honeysuckle. On the palate more baked apple , lemon peel , ginger . Quite rich and decadent almost , but balanced acidity , creamy texture . Buttered pastry and lemon tart . Good ginger tinged finish . This will need more time than the Leon , quite dense and rich . Better in 5-8 years and will last well a further 10 — a month ago

Don’t see much of this producer posted here. Not sure why but if you haven’t had a bottle of this cuvée, you should one day. Clos De Goisses is their flagship cuvée.

Quite golden in color. Nose of bruised pear, golden apple, pineapple, blood orange, spice, cream, bread dough, caramel, yellow lilies.

The palate is beautiful and layered. Nice body. Has the right amount of neutral wood for me to give it great complexity. Pear, red apple, orange citrus blend, pineapple, blackberries, lime-lemon-grapefruit, limestone & volcanic minerals, razor sharp chalkiness, white spice-ginger & a hot spice, sea fossils, saline, bread dough & baguette crust, caramel notes, cream, white florals, yellow lilies, excellent acidity and a beautifully; balanced, structured, nicely knitted, wire to wire long nicely not overly polished two-minute finish. This will keep getting better and better. Has decades of life.

Photos of my visit to the property just over a year a ago. Top right, a pano of the Cote de Blanc region as seen from the Clos Des Goisses vineyard-the region for Chardonnay in the region. Center photo of the Clos Des Goisses vineyard that grows over their facility from the street (I ate four bunches of unpicked Pinot Noir bunches while in it. All Pinot Noir in Clos Des Goisses. Wasn’t ready three weeks earlier when they picked, but was perfect for my visit. Best fruit I’ve eaten in a vineyard) Clos Des Gosisses sign as you walk up the stairs and barrel branding in their cellar.

Furthermore, this report showcases Champagnes from Champagne Philipponnat, with special reference to the renowned Clos des Goisses and a few of its later releases. I must express my admiration for Phillipponnat's Champagnes; their consistent excellence across vintages attests to their remarkable prowess. Charles Philipponnat consistently produces Champagnes that are pure, crystalline and taut. Notably, he was among the pioneers from the major houses to embrace low dosage levels.
