Off the Riesling color wheel, I secretly hoped I'd spin a pour of glowing gold (instead of silver skinned pale hay). I did. Gold dress with sparkles too. Fragrant and rich and beautiful. Aromas of gun powder, flint, soapy apples, candied orange peel, and white jasmine. A fruity wine. Oxidized orchard fruits browning and softening by the minute. A little bit of sweet, a little bit of copper. There isn't a lot of autolyse, but you don't miss it, the way you might with Champagne. — 6 days ago
Cool, crisp, oozing with slatey, steely minerality. Ripe lemons, limes, underripe mango, a touch of star fruit.
On the palate this is pure energy, zippy acidity, salty minerality, so pure & focused. Yet there’s a hint of creaminess on the palate, adding a velvety touch to the Rheingau austerity. Delicious stuff!
This is so good!!
And so drinkable this young, while the GG wait for their time. — 4 days ago
Wonderful Saar Riesling from Peter Lauer. Had a very nice tasting with them when we visited the Mosel a few years ago. Great value for the price. So piercing in terms of minerality and acid, but still very nice fruit. Transparent and pure. Delicious. — 12 days ago
Delicious! Sweet like a Riesling is, yet there was a lot of minerality to this one. Got bright fruit, kiwi, and even some honey and rose petal with this one. Loved it! — 5 days ago
Clean out the offsite storage locker and found a couple old ones. The Kistler I had for a while in the home cellar refrigerator at this age was shot. This while definitely mellowed, is nice and enjoyable. I found another Kistler that has always been offsite that I might just open soon to check. — 4 days ago
Pretty much made in the same way as Champagne. Hand shaken and not stirred! Al la James Bond. Orange blossom galore. Touch wild ripe apples. A beauty which provides a totally different experience than Champagne. Because of the flavor profile a super match for Asian food. Or just as a nice sip pm in front of a fire place. Eric Asimov did like a more recent vintage in a write up in the NYT. From Max Kogod. — 21 days ago
Phenomenal value; mouthwatering acidity, massive green and tropical fruit flavor, a ton of body from the touch of residual sugar. Great winter wine. — 19 days ago
