Dominio de Pingus

PSI Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2018

Intense sundrenched dark berried fruit with a lovely fresh energy, blackberries, blueberries, cassis. dark cherries and peppermint. Very integrated oak profile with a gentle touch of vanilla and sweet tobacco followed by a underlying stony minerality.
Dry palate with a medium + acidity, high tannins with a fine grained qualititave texture, well integrated alcohol in a full body that is balanced by a fresh acidity. Nuanced palate with a good complexity and characters of ripe dark berried fruit, vanilla and sweet licorice that evolves through a solid lenght that falls a bit short from the major league.

Família Pérez i Ovejero

Martinet Bru Priorat Garnatxa Syrah 2016

Still a baby, but already solid, huge, grippy, powerful and assertive Priorat.
Garnacha/Syrah, fermented in cement tanks with wild yeasts with daily oxygenation. Macerated 10-15 days. Aged in 4000 L wooden vats, 300 L barrels, clay jars & demijohns for 18 months.

Dark inky garnet, scarlet rim.
Intense, invigorating & refined nose of black earth, tar, smoke, pome jam, raspberry pie, charred pine cone, crushed pepper, peppermint, cherry seed, bone fire, caramel, mulberry jam, tobacco, box of matches, mushrooms, pu er tea, licorice, ink, rosemary, volcanic minerals.
Impressive and massive palate. Very full body (14.5%), vivid acidity, grained tannins. Chokeberry, hibiscus, red currant skins, basil, lilac broth, black gooseberry, unripe saskatoon, earth, cigar, roasted cacao beans, lavender, savory, espresso flavors.
Saturated lasting finish of cedar, saskatoon, chokeberry, coffee and licorice.
Paired rib-eye steak finely.

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2012 Les Carmes Haut-Brion was the first vintage with whole bunches (40%) and 18 months in barrel. It was the introductory vintage under current winemaker Guillaume Pouthier. This is much more enticing on the nose after the 2011: well-defined black cherries, cola, peppermint, light rose petal scents and a hint of marmalade that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, more freshness and tension than the 2011, and frankly, you would never be able to tell there was whole bunch here. This appears to be maturing with style and panache, but it will give another decade or more of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the Les Carmes Haut-Brion vertical at the château. Barolo Chinato Nebbiolo 1891

Wintergreen fresh nose with clove and ginger, peppermint and chocolate, peppercorn and mint. Bright and pine-y.
Cinnamon heat, Barolo tar and roses, clove and orange citrus, ginseng sweetness, and cinnamon oil with frankincense aspirations. Gorgeous seasonal offerings that warm the body and soul.

Château Angélus

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2012 Angélus has a fragrant bouquet: a mixture of red and black fruit, truffle, crushed stone and light wilted flower scents. Very pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation and good acidity, quite sappy with modest depth. Fairly structured with a dash of white pepper and peppermint on the finish. This Angélus has tons of personality and is drinking well now. Tasted twice at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year-On tasting and blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Spätlese Feinherb 2019

Lyle Fass
9.5

Killer nose. Blast of lime. Big slate. So clean and masterful clarity. Herbs, peppermint. So clear. Fresh rain. Layered. Multidimensional. Superb. Palate has a huge blast of lime sweetness on a hyper elegant frame and then pump out intense mineral lime zestiness that builds on the finish and just lingers. Terrific complexity in the mid palate and what a finish. Massive structure and grip here. So serious. Long, palate staining finish. Great now. Greater down the road. This wine is epic as it gets for Feinherb. Such intensity. Grip. Such structure. Brilliant. 19 is the truth. After air this gets so filigreed and elegant. The real deal. — 4 years ago
