R. López de Heredia

Viña Cubillo Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2005

A really interesting wine. Even though I know these can be everything from black fruit dominated to more of an ash dominated type of wine, the notes here were a little bit tart and even a little on the sweeter side. Dates, sweet plums. Had a hint of tobacco, very ashy in the middle and finish. There is suggestion that this one may even be on its way down, and I definitely question that now. Left remaining 25%of bottle for 12 hours later and although the nose had markedly improved, the wine had not. This doesn't seem to be a good ager. — 6 days ago

Rioja Tempranillo 2015

Rioja at it’s best. Nice structured Tempranillo. Medium-full bodied. Intense and grave varietal comes through. Good wine to enjoy with food as well as siping. — 7 days ago

Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 1968

Smokey tea (Lapsang souchong), leather . Crazy color. Vibrant caramel. Still very lively (like me, birth year wine). The acid keeps it super fresh, but it isn’t harsh at all — 13 days ago

Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva Rioja Rosé 2008

One of my favorite wines, period. Gap in production & hard to get in (at least my NY area) States makes it even more special. Starting with a gorgeous deep tangerine color, it’s amazing how fresh both on nose & on the palate—belying its 11 yr age but no surprise given Lopez de Heredia. It just invites & invites into a world of a sun drenched herb garden, planted w zucchini & tomatoes. Medium viscosity & absolutely the most food adaptable wine. Nothing oxidized or tired here. Had with a saffron based fisherman’s stew. What Orange wines should aspire to! — 10 days ago

Old 900 Estate Syrah 2008

Tar, brambley dark fruits, and desert rose. Really a beautiful nose. Very silky mouthfeel. This was aged for 18 months on lees. No hint if the new French oak either! This is a real delight and I want to share the next 2008 (and a 2007) with friends. — 5 days ago

La Rioja Alta

Gran Reserva 904 Rioja Tempranillo Graciano 2007

Pillars of 5 founding families erected a winery in 1890 producing wines of outstanding quality that continue to evolve. Bright Ruby, complex fruit aromas, spice and oak. 90% Tempranillo & 10% Graciano, 48 mos on American oak, not made every year! From Haro, Ripe Berry fruits, powerful yet elegant, with spice & smoky notes on full, very tight, tannins. Lingering finish, nice mouthfeel, ending with mineral earthy tones, a joy to Sip!! Tasting great, has much more aging potential. Great Value! — 4 days ago
