Ole' Orleans

Giacomo Ascheri

Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Young and not so expensive, delicious for a Barolo at this price ($38). Lots of roses, good acidity in the tar, nice tannins, steel, dark cherry, light leather, touch of black pepper, dirt next to a mushroom. A touch lighter than typical Barolo. From Main Street Wine and Gourmet, Orleans. 12/31/2024 Happy New Year! — 9 days ago

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2006

2006 vintage. Yo ho yo ho mateys! Not the greatest SoRhô vintage but a fairly decent producer aboard. Overt fruit influence gonzo. Dark and dense with plenty of years on the plank. Spicy finish with a solid dose of tannins afoot. Bigger body than anticipated. Definitely not a lean machine at this point and closer to medium-hevvy bod. Think Deep Purple In Rock vs Machine Head. If you know, you know. Hope that helped. Maybe not. Regardless, phenomenal juice and worth a visit/voyage down the ole heavy metal pipeline. Watch out for those Jon Lord organ interludes. Aarrgh! 3.15.23. — 2 years ago

@Severn Goodwin If you’ve got multiple bottles, wait till it warms up and serve one in the next few months with grilled veggies/meats fare. Crack another in 5 years and the last one in 2035 or so.

The following year 2007 was great in CdP. Waiting for an appropriate moment to open the Beaucastel Homage from 2007 which should be magnificent.

@Bob McDonald If you’re that disciplined (and it would seem you’re guilty), rock on and lay down the love notes. Enjoy.
