Others’ favorite; I preferred the ‘99 but then I always prefer old wines and this was really showing well too.

2006 vintage. Yo ho yo ho mateys! Not the greatest SoRhô vintage but a fairly decent producer aboard. Overt fruit influence gonzo. Dark and dense with plenty of years on the plank. Spicy finish with a solid dose of tannins afoot. Bigger body than anticipated. Definitely not a lean machine at this point and closer to medium-hevvy bod. Think Deep Purple In Rock vs Machine Head. If you know, you know. Hope that helped. Maybe not. Regardless, phenomenal juice and worth a visit/voyage down the ole heavy metal pipeline. Watch out for those Jon Lord organ interludes. Aarrgh! 3.15.23.

Sweet, soft tannins, stone fruit (I tasted peach I think). Very pleasant.

Gorgeous balance, just highly drinkable and enjoyable. Overall less lively/dynamic than I was hoping. Nose didn’t hit as hard expected. Didn’t notice immense change in the wine over the course of 4 hours. Would be excited to drink again

Bought arguably the most storied #chateauneufdupape from an unremarkable year at a reasonable price. 14 years later it was lovely after breathing for a while after uncorking, dried cherry, mushrooms, well balanced. Alas it faded after a couple of days in the wine fridge with some raisiny notes becoming evident; it was likely past it’s peak but still a nice wine.

Decanted for a hour. Dark and red fruit, with hints of leather, black pepper, licorice and roasted meat . Lush body, with rather resolved tannins. Long finish, great wine from an average year.
