Hermitage Blanc Marsanne Roussanne 2000

Rich, intense and opulent. A bigger vintage, but so well made, balanced and unlike how some other white Rhône’s can be, the alcohol is seamlessly hidden here. Layered with spiced orchard fruit, grilled nuts, honeycake, brown butter and nutmeg. There is a rich mouthcoating and viscous texture with great midpalate depth leading to a delightfully long finish. A great showing indeed. — 4 days ago

There has been a resurgence at this estate and this wine is why. Stunning nose of wild flowers, amazing clarity here. Superb meatiness. But also floral to the point of a kink. It’s exaggerated but you cannot resist. Superb. But under all the florals is a serious mineral/granite that is so refined and elegant. Wow, so elegant, juicy and refined but also a wild edge. Stephan vibes here. Minerals comes out as intense as florals now. This is a crazy wine. Super olive as well. Great concentration and power. Depth is great. Just awesome. A totally awesome wine. Wow. — 6 days ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2007

A little over 2 years since my last bottle. While 07s have been a strange lot, this bottle was utterly sublime and totally in its prime. Pop and pour. On the nose: soft cola, pine, dark black raspberry, black olive with brine....sweet and intensely savory. On the palate: fantastic acidity, excellent density and weight with olive brine, black raspberry, classic Cote Rotie. Attenuated tannin, but lovely balsamic notes, and very juicy on the finish. — 5 days ago

One of the greats, youthful with good balance, floral & elegance showing dark cherry, berry fruits, that is inky, displaying notes of graphite, licorice, mineral, olive, spice & violets. — 15 days ago

Oh baby is this in the zone. Nose is incredible. Wafting aromas of black olive, black berry fruit with a crystalline purity to it. So dense. So aromatic. Just killing it. Wow. Stunning clarity. Had good luck with Gilles recently. Amazing palate. Just unreal fruit and it’s everywhere! Just saturates with granite infused juicy, lip smacking insanity. So dazzlingly pure. The granite expression is crazy. What a finish. So complex and has that extra that makes it a great vintage. Unreal depth and concentration. Holy shit. This is total genius. — 7 days ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2017

Hot iron, iodine, olive tapenade, beef, creosote, curing salt, pink peppercorn, talcum, garrigue, scorched earth, granite, black raspberry liquor, grapefruit, crushed cherry, creme de cassis, rose petals. Ripe, full of flesh with sinew to back it up, found the balance quite remarkable here. The sun and warmth is felt in the generosity, but the tannins and acidity are well within reason. Granite and iron still at its core. — 3 days ago

A stunner. Just a stunner. Nose is black olive, green olive, tree bark, loads of granite and earth, some spice and some lovey high toned berry aromas. Another mesmerizing nose. Palate is juicy and elegant with terrific inner mouth aromas and awesome velvety tannins. So so juicy as pure. The tannins and red velvet finished with granite. Man this is long. An ethereal and deep nose. Just amazing fruit and intermingled with olive and such unreal juiciness. Wow, inner mouth olives and dark berry. Elegant, complex, concentrated and no hard edges. Super long and elegant finish. Insanely complex and also serene and zen. Massive step up over brilliant 2016. Insane I am giving this a 9.6. This is only 16 year old vines. But it has earned it. My god this is so clean, pure, deep, balanced and fresh. — 20 days ago

Clos Poncins Condrieu Viognier 2018

Star bright yellow gold. Inviting nose of baked peaches and magnolia blossom. Full-bodied complex palate of dried peaches, white flowers, toasted balsam, and a hint of honeycomb. Lingering finish. Medium acidity. A barrel fermented Viognier that’s a great winter fare white. Drink now through 2023. — 16 days ago
