Seven Deadly Lodi Red Blend 2016

This is a very enjoyable wine from Lodi California. Big and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Showing black fruits with chocolate notes, tobacco, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices and peppercorn.

Nice and easy drinking with or without food. Might be too sweet for some.

I paired it with a cheese board and light appetizers.

15% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Les Pavots Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2005

Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.

En mag. Probably the most difficult wine of the night to identify. Hardly anyone even got close to calling this cab. I was leaning Grenache or ripe vintage burgundy as I thought I was detecting a bit of whole cluster usage due to the lifted profile and stemmy/spice red fruit notes. Yet by the end of the night, the structure beefed up and the spice turned more sweet. Lovely cherry liqueur, sandalwood, baking spices and baked red fruited pie notes.

Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Kabinett Riesling 2012

Beautiful, shimmery pale gold with no variation. Smoky tangerine and lime with golden apple and brioche notably. Tastes of tart apple and tangy lime with with flinty aspects lead to a crisp peach perspective which lingers forever. Needs time to fully integrate for fans of older Riesling flavors, but it is at a really lively and zippy place now. — 23 days ago

Freakshow Lodi Red Blend

An explosion of dark ripe cherry, plum and BlackBerry. Hot at 15% a.b.v. , but smooth with no burn.

Mild tannins, lingering finish. If your reading this, please try it. $15 at my local liquor store.

One of the best red blends I've tried.

Paired with red potatoes, veg. Medley and roasted chicken.

This was en mag. WOW. Slightly cloudy in the glass. My first guess when looking at it was Marcassin, but it wasn’t waxy enough on the palate. Smelled of rich lemon cream, powdered lemon bars and juicy fruit (that should always be my key to guessing PM). A powerhouse on the palate with juicy tropical fruits, marshmallow, and sweet marzipan. Gorgeous stuff. I called this 2012 Aubert Ritchie.

Inkblot Cabernet Franc 2015

Pours inky dark. Big aroma of plums. Big dark fruit up front then a tannic burst in the middle. Then a long long dry graphite finish. Much more of a cab sav taste. Powerful. Softens as it opens up — 5 days ago
