Estate Bottled Petit Sirah 2023

‘Certified Green’. It’s also got the extra name of ‘Red Earth’ now. So purple it’s almost looks black in the center. Interesting aromas. Hint of rocas, horehound or pennyroyal, blackberry jams. Pine cones. Flavors are dense and dry. Thick body. Chewy tannins. Has a Dutch black licorice streak too. This is what one expects in CA Petite Sirah. Meaty, heady, and hefty stuff. I tend to love this kind of thing, so it’s right in my wheelhouse, and it’s a steal of a deal. — 3 months ago

'Metamodernity' Cherry Wood Single Malt Straight Rye Whiskey

Given the proof I expected way more power. It’s light on its feet and nicely done. — a year ago

Dunnigan Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Rusty, dusty maroon. Pretty classic color. Smells like wood, spices, licorice and good blackberry jam. Oh and wine. Smells winey. Like a wine cellar smells. Flavors are smooth and less tannic than expected. Tastes like cherry and berry sauce meets a nice fruit licorice from Australia or Holland. Also tomato and tobacco leaves. Balanced and complete. This is a very drinkable and enjoyable Central Valley Cab at a nice price. — 6 years ago

Batard Langelier

Cuvée Didascalie Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie Melon de Bourgogne 2017

Quarantine Day 10: I enjoyed this muscadet. Would pair so well with oysters or a grilled fish. High acidity and salinity really pierce the pallet. The nose is tough on this one. Maybe some green apple? Some pear? And maybe even some kind of flinty matchbook smell. It’s good. — 6 years ago

Estate Bottled Malbec 2021

Red fruit and oak comes through on the nose and palate, balanced acidity, tannins and oak. Round and delicious. When dinner suddenly changes to Irish Stew and the wines you had opened just won't work... — 3 months ago

The Arsonist California Petit Verdot Blend 2021

Very hipster tattoo styled label. 52% Petite Verdot, 25% Cab Sauv, 23% Malbec. Dark, dark maroon color. Aroma is gravel and molasses. Maybe a hint of berry. Flavors are beefy and big. Lots of dried black cherry. Some molasses. Tannins are well represented. Has that classic Matchbook herbal streak. This went well with the lamb and mushroom dish I made. A great blend. Lots of zip and zing. Delicious. — 7 months ago

Cristom

Mt. Jefferson Cuvée Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016

Wednesday night and I have opened the 2016 Cristom Mt. Jefferson Cuvée Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, Oregon.

On the nose there is beautiful fruit, cherry, cranberry, raspberry, clove, matchbook, smoke, wet leaves and earth.

On the palate there is bing cherry, cranberry, raspberry, clove, spice, hibiscus and earth.

This wine is medium bodied and a smooth mouthfeel with medium + acidity and medium fine tannins that moves into a medium to long spicy dark fruit finish. Only two more days left to the work week and then the weekend. Stay safe and have a great rest of the week. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

This one is the Malbec. Lovely dark color. Hint of deep purple. Smells of plums sauce and herbs. Flavors are lovely complex. Cooked prunes. A berry pie. Complexity is high. Juicy. Dense. This is great hearty stuff. — 6 months ago

Tinto Rey Tempranillo 2016

Ashy, kinda tannic blackberries & smoke—a great wintery wine. Nothing suave about it, but I’ll definitely buy again. And the label is fun—terrific! — 5 years ago
