Mas de Daumas Gassac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2008

Just lovely. Probably wouldn’t hold a ton longer but what an elegant bottle — 2 months ago

Clos Fontà Priorat Grenache Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Last tasted 11.06.24 (9.2). This has come together a bit more since then. One thing I can tell you is you got to be free. Showy dark cherry and oak marriage with spices aplenty. Medium body alongside respectable mojo filter tannins. Fun and built for speed. 08.14.25. — 9 months ago

Bellmunt Priorat Red Blend 2021

Fresh and vibrant with red fruit aromas alongside spicy, earthy undertones and hints of mineral. Lively medium-bodied yet juicy, refined and silky tannins, good acidity, and a refreshing, mineral finish. — 3 months ago

Nouveau Nouveau (mas oui!) Columbia Valley Gamay Noir 2015

Thanksgiving week so time to open this PDX baby up, made in Portland but grapes grown in Columbia Valley (they are an urban winery, fun place to visit). Purple, slightly cloudy, medium pigment extraction. Blackberries, blueberries and black currants in the nose. Soft, moderate alcohol, fruit with length and mild seed tannins in the finish and aftertaste. Graphite as well. I love this stuff in the autumn; get some now. Nothing fancy, just tasty, rustic and evocative — 6 months ago

Coume del Mas

Schistes Collioure 2021

Lively and just the right amount of pepper. Paired quite nicely with the lamb chops. Less heavy and more ethereal. — 3 years ago

Marimar Estate (Marimar Torres)

Mas Cavalls Doña Margarita Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Our friend described this as forest floor. Did have wet forest smells along with mushrooms, dry blackberry and raspberry with a slight musty funk. Felt like this bottle was just a touch sweeter (not dessert wine sweet just that the dark fruit had fermented a bit more). Good wine. — 5 years ago

Salanques Priorat Garnacha Blend 2007

Salanques: Poured into a decanter several hours prior and returned to the bottle just before dinner. The 2007 “Salanques” pours, a deep garnet color with a near opaque, core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and slightly desiccated red and dark fruits, red cherries, blackberries, dried red flowers, well-oiled leather, rocky minerals, light baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (that is mostly integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Showing remarkable elegance; this is a delicious, gorgeous Priorat that is currently firing on all cylinders. A lovely pairing with paella a variety of traditional Spanish tapas. Drink now and over the next 10 years. — 2 years ago

Can Dez Mas

L'Equilibrista Ca N'Estruc Syrah Blend 2015

Pleasantly funky! Blend of Syrah (50%) with the balance split between Garnacha and Carinena (Samso). Aromas of bright brambly red berry fruit, cigar leaf and iodine. Just a touch of Brett. Red berry fruit and beef jerky with a touch of black coffee and dark chocolate on the pallet. A slightly spicy finish. Lacking a bit on the mid-pallet a bit but there is such a great balance of acidity, tannins and alcohol that it can be overlooked. A nice little find recommended by Chris at the Vino Volo in DFW! — 4 years ago
