Black Monterey County Pinot Noir 2013

Not usually a Pinot fan but this was really good. Full of berry flavor. — a month ago

Fallen Feather Three Twins Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

This is a nice wine; might consider repurchasing it. Red fruit forward, but nice cassis and overall balanced flavor profile. Hit the mark. — 6 days ago

Verget

Lieu Secret Mâcon Pierreclos Chardonnay 2020

My white of the night, even though my guess for it as a blind missed the mark. Once more, the influence of sight led me astray, with the exposed Stelvin cap popping out of the blind sleeve leading me to identify it as an Australian Chardonnay. In my defense, the ripeness of the fruit does fit the guess. If anything, it just reaffirms my view that global warming (and the homogenisation of styles) has been making it harder and harder to discern new and old world wines as of late. That topic aside, this wine was just so digestible. Long with strong salinity, laser-like acidity, and luscious mouthfeel. There’s a mix ripe stone and zesty citrus fruits here, along with nutty, woody, and spicy nuances. The only element that irks me is a touch of muskiness which I attribute to some level of premox. Other than that, there’s richness, intensity, and precision here - all the hallmarks of a great wine. Delicious, and finished in no time at all. — 14 days ago

The Vincent Cabernet-Syrah Blend 2019

Smells of blueberry cream cheese

Medium bodied with cassis, pomegranate, orange zest, cedar plank, oregano.
Car Cara acidity and cedar plank tannins wrap this up into a great little package.

Vinos Valtuille

PV Pago de Valdoneje Bierzo Mencía 2015

Extremely earthy. Aromas and flavors of red and black fruits with hints of smoke, black licorice and roasted mint leaves. Just a touch of Brett. Really dense (including the color) and concentrated. Fine tannins. Rustic but elegant. Thanks a mark B. — 9 days ago

Schramsberg Vineyards

Brut Rosé North Coast Sparkling Chardonnay

First bottle of honeymoon wine at the Mark Hopkins InterContinental In San Francisco! It smells like the best piece of baked brioche bread, the crust specifically. Surprisingly light on the bubbles, almost a pet-nat level of effervescence, but the flavor is straight acidic red fruits, with strawberry and some lemon citrus, and a delicious dry finish. The finish is also mouth drying, but all mineral driven. Very enjoyable pre-dinner sparkling! — 3 days ago

Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2019

Pleasant Pinot Noir. Light bodied, as expected. Warm red fruits and cedar on the nose. Mild spice and acid on the fore palate that hints of ginger. Lingering dry finish. A good value — 18 days ago

Les Saveaux Cornas Syrah 2016

Methinks the ‘16 Rodano Chianti Reserva outdid this in terms of gamey ness, which is a compliment: gorgeous fruit here, light on bacon fat, very powerful but still svelte & tamed. Sure, another 12-15 years to go, but so generous at its 6year mark. What a treat — 23 days ago
