Mid to deep crimson in colour. Aromas of red berries, a little oak, a bunchie stalky note, spices including nutmeg and a dash of chocolate. Medium plus bodied quite northern Rhone in style more than SA. Not dissimilar to another excellent North Island Syrah as in Trinity Hill, Hawkes Bay. Very good, very tasty. From the unlikely destination of Waiheke Island which is in the middle of Auckland Harbour, which is massive in area compared to Sydney Harbour. One would think the rainfall might be a little high for quality viticulture but not so. Also when you think that one of the best new world Chardonnays in Kumeu River is made just to the north of Auckland. — a month ago
Man this is good! Nose of barnyard funk, white pepper, cinnamon, allllll the red fruit. Very well balanced on the palate, crunchy red fruit, med+ acidity, soft tannins. Such a fun wine that puts a smile on your face! — 4 days ago
Attention cab lovers, this bottle is for you. It represents all that California merlot can and should be. Big, bold, tastefully oaked, complex with strong tannins and a hearty finish. Fruit-driven, this bottle is strong enough for a man, but beautifully balanced just for this woman. Cheers! — 12 days ago
Oh man. So I tasted this, totally thought it could be corked or at least flawed. It was musty and muted. But since it was a BYO across country it is what it is so I waited. Total 180. Completely blossomed into what was a superb showing featuring weightless intensity and true elegance. The more delicate 2007 vintage is a terrific match for the more heavy handed style of Meo Camuzet. — 7 days ago
Drunk review 2: Okay, I had this the other night, but this bottle is better. Super fruity. The first glass was like, “man, this tastes old”, but by the second glass it has opened in a light, open, floral wine with light spices like pepper. I imagine this is what Italy tasted like before social media, when it was still mysterious, old, and foreign. I would pair while petting an elegant, but old dog. Like a greyhound or a Irish wolfhound. — 14 days ago
