Classic Domherr nose of rock, lime zest, slate and that faint vulcanized-rubber note, initially compact but clearly waiting to blossom. The palate is gorgeous: juicy and luscious in the 2023 way, but cut by incisive minerality and excellent acidity. Extremely clean, pure and perfectly balanced, with a long, mineral finish that just keeps going. Only 7.5% alcohol, which makes the whole thing dangerously easy to drink. 9.7 upside.

Even better on day two. Glorious, intensely mineral nose of lime zest, slate and crushed rock. The palate is luscious and almost icing-like in texture, but still beautifully fresh, pure and precise. Gorgeous fruit, seamless balance and terrific length. Rich without heaviness, sweet without losing cut. Just a beautiful Mosel Kabinett. 9.6 to 9.7. — 24 days ago

Stunning. Nose has a hint of maturity. Petrol, dry leaves, lemon, apple skin, herbal, insanely complex. Palate has so many minerals. Concentrated, bitter fruits, so mineral. High acid and lovely structure to burn. — 8 years ago

Although this bottle had a rather low fill and was clearly showing signs of oxidation because of it, the magical qualities of the '71 vintage came through in mid palette and a long, complex finish that reminded me of caramel and toasty creme bruleé. One of the middle Mosel's finest vineyard sites, the Domherr is the best part of the greater Goldtröpfchen. — 12 years ago
