Love Over Gold

Anthill Farms

Campbell Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

First of all Kudos to Ant Hill love the wax seal over cork! Deep Ruby with aromas of dark Berry fruits with notes of herbs, citrus, floral and earthy spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry, tea, vanilla and herb tones, well balanced with acidity. Firm fine tannins on a long finish ending with fruit and floral herb character. Very nice! Will age well! — 3 months ago

Classic orange gold color. Paired nicely with bbq short ribs. Honey, apricot, oranges, and a little Sauternes on the nose. Same on the palate. Maybe a touch over the hill, but nice. — 5 months ago

Exquisite gold color. Insane nose! Minerals, beeswax, and subtle honey. Same on the palate. Oily, dense texture, which I love. This is right in my wheelhouse! I could swirl this in my mouth all night! — 7 months ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2008

#AgedWineTuesday

Light gold in color.

Nice crisp nose with limes and brioche.

Light to medium in body with medium plus acidity and small bubbles.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing citrus, yeast, minerals, bread, green apples, herbs, earth, lemon juice and white pepper.

Long finish, tasty and elegant.

This 16 year old still feels very young, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Rich and well balanced.

I love this vintage of Dom Perignon. Complex and interesting. I've had this vintage it a few times before, and it is very consistent.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. Good stuff.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$350.

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1999

Yellow gold with copper hue, quite thin pale rim . Caramelised pineapple, saffron , vanilla , creme brûlée , quite rich and decadent. On the palate again quite rich , barley sugar , creme brûlée and saffron, just enough acidity to balance and a little alcoholic warmth . On the medium length finish , lemon rind and a touch of caramel . This is probably at peak now , just misses a little vibrancy , freshness, however successful for the vintage . Drink now and over the next 10- 15 years — 5 months ago

Cristal Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir Blend 1979

Paler colour than the 76 , medium old gold colour . Quite a lot of bubbles still. This shows much more linear and mineral , quite chalky on the nose and palate but has enough fresh lemon tinged fruits to cover the bones . This is fresher and younger on the palate than the 76 . Long more focused on the finish, higher acidity . This is perfect now and over the next 5-10 years I would imagine . Very much alive and vivid for a Champagne of this age. — 10 months ago

Bodega Fundada

Albariño D' Fefinanes Albariño 2022

Just love this wine. Pale lemon with tropical fruit aromas and citrus scents. On the palate ripe apricot and peach flavors with honey lemon zest. Well balanced with pleasant acidity, finishing with mineral, honey and wet stone nuances on the medium ending. Very nice! Should improve over the next few years. Nice value! — a year ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1981

Opened 24 hours prior and decanted for sediment before returning to the bottle; enjoyed over the course of two days. The 1981 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of tart brambles and plums, green bell pepper, tobacco, leather, all of the decomposing earth and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium, mostly integrated tannins with medium+ acid, borderline high. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. Overall, a wine that is a reflection upon the vintage and at 43 years of age, that’s a big compliment. The 1981 is very much alive and will likely live for a very long time. However, it is backward, rustic, and somewhat tough to love unless you’re an old-school masochist. But I’m guilty and this wine is charming despite all of its green character. Drink now and over the next 30 years probably. — 4 months ago

Pontet Canet was underachieving big time in 81. The 82 was great (I bought futures!). And after that it was a gradual climb back to the high quality level that had been lacking in the 70s.

@Tom Casagrande ‘81 was tough but they are still alive to tell the story. Agree that they have been on the ascendency since then.

Viña Gravonia Crianza Rioja Viura 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed a single glass from a bottle that had been opened for over an hour. The 2015 “Gravonia” pours a deep straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with charming oxidative notes of black lemon, honeydew, tumeric, and nuts. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with a sort of waxy texture. Distinctive and delicious. Damn, I love these wines. Drink now through 2035. — 6 months ago

Mollydooker Wines

Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz 2020

Love these “Blue Boys.” Mollydooker (Aussie for left-hander) Wines was established in 2005 by Sarah and Sparky Marquis. Dark Ruby with dark berry fruit aromas adding sweet spice and cedar. On the palate this wine has complex flavors of blackberry and blueberry with licorice, cacao, oak and vanilla. Fine dusty tannins, peasant mouthfeel (16% Alcohol), full-bodied, long ending with a nice spicy finish. Aging well, good now, has room to run over short term. — a year ago
