Mid to bright gold in colour. A note of paraffin Notes of Orange marmalade, toast, apricot, mangoes and almonds. Intensity off the charts. How can you get this much flavour into a wine. A fitting finish to a marvellous dinner. Hats off to the Downs Club - Mark Kennedy the chef, and Peter Barbe the Sommelier. May there be many more such dinners, also Ramon the importer who spoke about each wine with great knowledge.

An overlooked vintage of d’Yquem that is in a great spot now (2017).

Gorgeous 99 Yquem from 375 ml. Ambrosia, honey, stone fruits. Still a baby. Damn delicious!

One of those odd vintages of Yquem. A fabulously restrained expression of botrytis, with an intensely honeyed nose and cutting yet poised acidity. Very long indeed. However, there is a faint, dry, almost tannic bitterness on the very end palate that sours the experience ever so slightly. Like being invited to experience the tasting menu at El Bulli and realising that you have to do the washing up afterwords.

Such a baby yet, huge aromatics of apricot, lemon zest, stone fruit. Bright crisp acidity balancing a luscious sweetness. Power and finesse in one. Tons of age left.

A real treat to have this at the Nomad bar in NYC. Definitely candied tropical fruits with a long molasses finish
