Domaine Blain-Gagnard

Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2014

Classic French chard. Just a hint of butter, which I’ll overlook because the acidity is brilliant, and there are white flower and mineral accents that make this delicious. — 6 years ago

Cantina Terlan

Kreuth Terlano Chardonnay 2010

Deep, golden-hue in color, the 2020 Terlano “Kreuth” (100% Chardonnay) is a lush, full-bodied example of the variety. Hints of star fruit and bright citrus notes greet the nose, but it’s on the palate where this wine be shinin’ right now. Full-bodied, rich and glorious is the texture, pinned down by an uncanny mineral-driven sense of place. I learned a long time ago that you just can’t write-off ANY of the Chardonnay that comes from the Alto-Adige region of Italy- or ANYWHERE from Italy for that matter. As it breathes it comes into its own, changing with every breath and reinforcing itself on the finish. See simply: do not overlook. — 8 months ago

Charm Acres Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2018

8.9

This ain’t half bad. Maybe I just like to lavish out reasonable marks, but it’s a crowd-pleaser. Lemon rind, roasted almonds and roasted nuts on the nose lead to a weighty, sweet mid palate. Lacking acidity along with a relatively short, exotic finish, I’m willing to overlook its fault lines, cos overall it’s good. — 4 years ago

A little bit austere in every way, medium minus intensity of aromas, but on the palate. I find it very enjoyable, rich, and a little bit creamy and maintains the fruit — a year ago

Do not overlook this small producer in Santenay, he is amazing and sells out quickly. This is beautifully balanced wine with oak, white flower, lemon and acidity. So elegant. @ Maufoux in Beaune — 6 years ago

Cruse Wine Co.

Rorick Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

Another solid effort from Michael Cruse! Chardonnay from the Rorick Heritage Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. Pours a medium (-) straw-gold hue. Medium/medium (+) concentration of aromatics of bruised yellow apple, fresh pineapple, honeysuckle, wet stone, some bread dough and aged cheese rind leesiness, creme fraiche, and a bit of slight savory, almond-y oxidative character. On the palate, there's more yellow apple and pineapple that is joined by a bit of ripe Bosc pear, along with more wet stone, aged cheese rind, honeysuckle, and a slight fennel edge to the finish. Medium to medium (+) acid, dry, medium bodied with lush texture from neutral oak, malo, and lees. There's also the slightest bit of phenolic edge because the juice is left on skins overnight prior to fermentation. Alcohol is medium (+) and is a bit too noticeable on the palate for my tastes but is still gentle enough to overlook. Wish there was a bit more acid but there's still definitely enough to at least keep it in balance enough. Overall, pretty good stuff and interesting for sure; if there's one word you *can't* use to describe Michael's wines in general, "boring" is that word. — 9 years ago
